My guide for adding music and artwork in BS5 using a Mac.
I was pretty irritated on how the BS5 worked - it did not work out as I wanted or thought. So after hours surfing the net, asking questions on this forum it got to me how it works. And what works. Since I dont think I am alone in this I wrote everything down. If anyone wants to add or remove things feel free!
The BS5 needs some manual job to work good and so it looks good.
I have the CDrip unit on my BS5, but B&O did not recognise some of the music I had, both new and old records. So I rip the music in my computer and send them to my BS5.
Programs usediTunesBeoconnect – the only available program for Mac.
On the computerSort the music properly in iTunes. Rewrite if needed, BS5 takes what you feed it with.
There is a script (thx Fisp) http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=findalbumartworkThat you can use. I did not because all of my mucis was already on my BS5.
Pressing add artwork in iTunes will not work – those files are not compatible with BS5 file structure.
In the folder for your music you can see if there are inbedded covers to the songs. If the file picture shows mp3 then it does not have inbedded art work. If there is a small picture of the artist/album the file has inbedded artwork.
Already music in Bs5 without album covers?A timeconsuming process is to manually add artwork to your existing folders in Bs5.
There are two different file structures:
Artist – albums – songs – these have been ripped on the BS5
Mac – artist – albums – songs – these files have been moved from your mac to BS5.
I go to the folder, check if there is artwork – if yes I look at the file – how good quality it has. If it has poor quality I get one with better quality. Name the new picture folder.jpg then it move it to the actual folder – done.
If there is no art work I look for the actual picture in google or some other search engine. Drag it to my desktop, rename the picture folder.jpg move it to the actual folder – done.
I have looked at different sites that collects artwork, for me these sites are too slow. And also they dont have all the music I had. So the fastest way was to use a search engine.
It takes alot of time – I know but then when it is done it looks good – a BS5 with alot of grey B&O logos is pretty boring in my world..
FilesIf you rip the music on your computer remember to use mp3 files, dont use iTunes lossless fileformat - this will not work! In the BS5 you can have mp3 and flac files.
Can I downlload it on my laptop and send it to the BM?
Where do I put the program and how do I start it?

I have yet another solution :)
I was also a bit let down by the stupid B&O software on my mac. The dealership's solution was completely ridiculous. As I spent years to keep my iTunes nicely organised with artwork and all that, I wanted to use that as a source and not just simply drag and drop.
Now I'm using GoodSync and don't bother with the b&o application. I'm doing a one way sync between my iTunes directory on my mac and the beomaster 5 with some rules to prevent it from copying books, apps, movies and the sort.
For me this works excellent, the only downside is that if you edit a song in iTunes, the next sync will delete and copy the song again on the beomaster. If you had that song in one of the playlists, it's gone, but I can live with that :)
I have one question for you, guys :
I'm using Windows Media Player to rip in WMA lossless my CD on a laptop with Windows XP.
Then, i transfer the music in the Beomaster 5 (drag and drop in windows explorer).
Of course, with WMP, the cover art are in low definition. So i search the best cover on the web and ad the folder.jpg file in the directory of the BeoMaster 5.
Easy, but takes time.
Now, if i use iTunes to rip the music, for instance, in MP3 at 320Kbps. And then thansfer the folder in the BeoMaster 5 (drag and drop, too).
Has the embedded cover art a good quality on the BeoSound 5 screen, or shall i search for a hi-res cover on the net ?
I didn't try iTunes for the BM5, but i find that the cover of the music i transfer with iTunes on my iPad are quite good. So, is it enough for the BS 5 ?
Thanks.
Thanks Bsantini,
i didn't know it is available for Windows.
Will try it.
