Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a way to troubleshoot why my new (to me) Beolab center channel speaker is not working. I got the setup about 6 weeks ago. It is comprised of 2 x Beolab 17, 2 x Beolab 18, 1 x Beolab 19, 1 x Transmitter 1, the 7.1 center channel speaker, all connected to an Onkyo receiver. The center channel is using Sounds Heavenly powered cables.
Everything was working fine until yesterday, when, after arriving home, I noticed that there was a power interruption during the day. Now, before you think it must have been a power surge, I have an extension cable to which the 7.1 is connected, plugged into a UPS, which should shield all connected hardware from power surges.
I tried all I could do, which is unplug the connections, including the 2 power cables for it, but it's still not working.
I know it's not the output from the receiver, because I connected a passive speaker to the regular outlet (not preamplified) and it works.
Any ideas?
These speakers turn on when a sound signal comes in or with a external 5 Volts signal?
They turn on as soon as tjere is a signal, not like the ones going through the wireless transmitter.
If memory serve’s me right, the beolab 7 range need dedicated trigger voltage to a pin to turn on? They don’t have audio sense.
Hello dvprvt,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems. You mentioned that all was working prior to the power interruption, so the correct cables should be in place and connected the right way.
It is possible that the power issue has caused damage, so are you able to try temporarily removing the UPS and extension cable please, to see if each speaker works when connected directly to the mains supply?
If this doesn't help, please take a look at the recess on the rear of the Beolab 7-1 centre speaker - you should see a small rubber cover, which can be removed with a fingernail edge. Inside should be an LED light, which shows red when the speaker is in standby mode, or green when it is powered on.
With everything (receiver, speakers, powered cables, etc) switched on:-
1) If there is no LED then the speaker power may have failed, or the speaker is faulty,
2) If the LED is red, the powered cable is not supplying the trigger voltage to the speaker, or
3) If the light is green then the receiver is not supplying audio to the speaker.
Please let me know what you find and I will be pleased to assist further.
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.
