i just bought a CD 6500. the unit arrived UPS without the transport screws locked in place. i normally ask this of the seller but i saw he had experience with the product so it didn't occur to me or i forgot--

anyhow i've gone over the unit and all the basic mechanical things seem ok, tray, disc reading, track advance, etc. haven't had a chance to hook it up to listen to it yet though.

from what i know the screws basically prevent the cd mechanism from banging up against itself under rough shipping. could there be damage inside i don't know about? thanks in advance!

They are quite sturdy decks.
It would take a huge amount of banging around to destroy something related to the laser. - More than enough to
cause other damage and leave external marks too, I'd say.
