Well, now I really need some input before I go Nuts.
I have this Beocord 8000 where the head clamp-in when pressing play but retracts immediately.
No FF or REW.
Belts are changed and all axels are cleaned and regreased with no positive result.
Changed PCB 4 (the one under the drive) with another (in fact two) which is known to work.
Changed the drive with one which is known to work.
Checked all connections and fuses (including the one under the keyboard)
So, I’m lost –I must have said something to the damn thing that it dislikes J
Does anyone have an idea.
That is a common behavior when there is something wrong with the Beocord. It senses a fault and immediately retracts. There could be a number of things that cause that. Most likely there is some physical blockage. Check that the brake pads on the reels (especially the one on the right) are correctly in place and there isn't one stuck where it is blocking the reel. Another possibility is the small metal clip that presses onto the cassette when the heads try to engage. Make sure it isn't bent where it can't clear the cassette housing.

Does the motor run in the damn thing? If not, check the stupid fuse on the silly board underneath the annoying motor.
Martin
Yes, its running silently like a charm 🤫🙂
Does the take-up reel (the right reel) run while playing?
It does not Play at all, it retracts at once - also with another drive installer.

Check the solder joints for the large connector to the mech. section. That's the one you plug the large white plug into.
Will do, tomorrow - but I have tried with another PCB.
I'll be back :-)
Checked all solderjoints on all connectors (resoldered)
Changed C4 and C8 on PCB4
Still the same;
When pressing Play it engages and then retract
When pressing FF or REW it makes one or two turns, then stops.
@sonavor: I have tried with 3 different mecs. all with the same behavior so it is most likely not a mechanical problem, but rather electronic.
Could be that the Eject signal is too high, but you already replaced 4C8.Check 4TR16Martin
Nope, measure just fine - replaced it with a new 547B and no change.
I'm going completely bonkers
Does the eject signal look correct?Did you replace idler rubber parts or take the deck apart?Does the tapehead bridge engage completely at play (pressure roller in contact with capstan etc.)?
Martin, what about the Hall Element (12IC14)? If that device failed or one of its connections opened up the Beocord would not sense any tape reel movement right? Would that cause the Beocord computer to stop any play or forward/rewind activity?
John
It would. But if no pulses are coming from the hall element, the deck would usually go on for about half a second or so, enough tosee the take-up reel rotate, which it apparently doesn't in this case. But of course a check of the hall signal would be a good idea. There could also be more than one fault.Perhaps something with the solenoid hold function.
This could be the case - the take-up reel does rotate app. ½ sec.
I will check it later today.
Now it rotates. When I asked the first time, it didn't...
Well, yes and no, it doesn't rotate - but it moves
anyway I'll check tomorrow and return -right now my brain is melting .....
Well, I've checked the the Hall and even changed it -not an easy task (bear in mind I'm a IT and Radiation engineer -not Mechanical )
But I got it assembled again and..., same sh**, it does how ever rotate one full turn when pressing FF or REW.
I'm so close to say "If someone wants it, you can find it in the Harbour "
You said earlier that you have more than one of the Beocord mechanical assemblies, right? Those are complete assemblies? With the assemblies removed can you operate (by hand) the reels and check that they turn easily? You also checked the Hall device wiring from the mechanical assembly to the board, right?
I have 2 other identical assemblies and all 3 have the same behavior.
The only difference between them are that the original has an blue marker "A" on the motor and the others have an "E"
I have checked all solderings and wirings and they all move freely.
It is really difficult to diagnose these type of problems remotely. When I trouble-shoot electrical problems by swapping parts I typically have a known good version of the part to swap with. If that isn't the case then swapping parts may not produce any more answers.
In your case I think you will need to track down the control source for operating the cassette mechanics and trace what it is missing. I can see the Hall component in the service manual parts list but I am not finding it in the schematic diagrams (service manual 1-4 diagram 3) unless they are calling it "Auto Stop" (P1-6, P1-9, P1-10). P1-6 goes to the microcomputer "Take Up" input. So possibly something in that path is a problem. There is also a solenoid protection circuit so it is possible that is malfunctioning.
