Hi Nick,

I believe the the first generation had the DVD logo on the front of the design whereas the Mark 2 (which I have). The Mark 1 is a poor quality Philips mechanism. The Mark 2 is PIONEER. Mark 2 is apparently more reliable. From experience, they are heavily over priced players (Obviously B&O being totally greedy with a huge mark up!). I think I paid £750 for mine which now makes me feel rather ill.

Hi Paul, join the club as so did I way back. Wonder what that price equates to now in terms of Pounds?

I've still got it stored away, it works perfectly and is unmarked, but I haven't the heart to junk it!

Paid the same also for the VHS player/recorder which packed up a few years back and was thrown out.

I must have had far too much money back then, hence no new B&O gear for the past 10 years!

As the song goes......."Oh Happy Days....".

Hi, there is difference in quality even unit to unit (as we everything... but it wasn't your question,

I have DVD1 and paid about £30 for it, what corresponds to other brands and got working unit with few scratches and bonus to be controlled with my Beo4, one shouldn't expect exceptionally quality just because it's from established brand - keep it real ;)

Hi Nick,

Yes i'm definitely correct about the two models as I really looked into it at the time :)

I do believe that the Mk2 Pioneer mechanism is more reliable than the Philips. I'm a HUGE fan of Pioneer, we religiously use the brand in radio, it's THE ONLY brand that djs will use, so i was happy to learn that the DVD1 has a Pioneer mechanism as at the time Pioneer were pretty well respected.
