I invited my friend over the other day and he said my B&O 5.1 setup can be improved.

First of all, he said I should move my BL4000 to a higher position (I am using the floor stand and they are just besides my sitting position). I moved and placed them on top of my bookshelf (now about 4 feet above my head) and it is a significant improvement.

Secondly, he said my B&O is lacking mid-range and that's why I find it too "noisy" watching action movie after awhile.

I am not trying to post another B&O not good vs other brand post, but I want to figure out how to improve my existing setup using the EQ of my amp (Pioneer LX83).

To do a A/B test, I loan a pair of Focal 714V and 700V centre from a friend and test them. I can tell the difference immediately. The sound from the Focal is more "solid" or not as "sharp" as my B&O, its seems vocal has a bit of follow-thru. (I hope I am making sense in describing it :P).

What I did was switched back to BL 10 (I decided to do one at a time) and start tweaking the amp EQ. I ran the MCACC (Pioneer name for its room calibration) focusing in adjusting the speaker frequency response, and set the centre speaker as small speaker with a cutoff at 100Hz.

Vocal is much solid but still lack the last bit of follow thru as the Focal. But BL10 sound more crisper on the other hand. Is B&O ALT suppose to sound more crisper than other brand?

I understand BL10 may not be audiophile grade, but it cant be that bad either. Any suggestion how I can fiddle with the EQ manually to improve the sound from BL10? In particular which frequency I should adjust?

After BL10, I will start playing around with the BL8000. :)

Many thanks!
