For those of you, who read my previous thread with the above title, I can say, thatthe buyer, for one reason or another, decided to make good.I therefore decided to remove the thread from Beoworld.
Martin
Glad to hear that. Reading the previous post was very upsetting.

Nice to hear that the buyer has found his better half.
ebay seems to be geared up to protect buyer's from rogue seller's,but seems oblivious to buyer's "trying it on",which is becoming a common occurance in my experience.

but my experiences are also such...
Many sellers wanted to trick me.misleading ad, hidden errors, ... ectB&O is a specific brand for which the appearance is much important. Many vendors want to mask the actual situation.I do not say that most are such, but there are many.In some countries, many units are very dirty, poorly maintained.Again in others, beautifully preserved regardless of age.Indeed, it reflects the mentality of people in conservation of the units. And in some countries there are many fake sellers.
Ebay'ing is a game, really.Never Ebay something, you cannot afford to lose.
What I didn't know was, that Ebay apparently told the buyer to return the item to me (at his cost). It arrived yesterday and is, as predicted, not identical to the item I sent.It has numeous scratches and marks from heavy use (and of course the broken glass etc.), it's clearly worn around thebuttons on the front and has the classic issue around the hole for the left hinge (mine was mint).I have reported this to Ebay. Let's see if something happens.
Apparently, whatever made him change his mind, it was to late to stop the return shipment.
Oh - and Ebay emailed me last night telling me that, because they made a mistake, I would get every cent of my money back.
So it all ended well.- For me....
The unfortunate part is that not everyone is a moderator on the world's biggest B&O enthusiast site. Lots of this sort of thing goes on and the victim is powerless to do anything about it. I am delighted that you have got proper redress Martin, but it is a scandal that this type of fraud was attempted and is well known on eBay. I suggest the use of ultraviolet markers and micro markers will need to become the norm when selling which is a shame for the many honest buyers out there. But delighted to hear about your happy ending - had considered sending you a replacement then remembered your stock!

That was the part of your original post that didn't make sense to me. Ebay wouldn't demand that you not only refund his payment. but that he gets to keep the item as well. That would be double jeopardy.

Actually, Ebay rules are, that if the buyer decides to return the item based on it being "not as described" (or transport damaged), the sellermust pay the return shipping if he wants it back. The seller is given the choice of accepting it back (and pay the return shipping) or issue a complete refund, shipping cost and all.Money for return shipping wasn't debited my Paypal account, so I wasn't expecting the item back. But Ebay didn't communicate a lot this time. They didn't even tell me, that the case was closed in buyers favour. I only found out whenthe money disappeared from my Paypal account.
Still, we're talking about a 39-euro item here. That somebody as active on Ebay as him, apparently using it as his Hi-Fi shopwindow, currentlylisting 600+ items would jeopardize all that - and for such a small amount - is beyond me.
Thanks Peter. I know you would. You are too kind.
Very sorry to hear about the trouble you had Martin, it's particularly galling when things like this happen to truly good, honest, and generous people like you. Ebay is definitely a mixed bag at times, there are far too many con artists and dishonest cretins out there, I guess it's a surprise given all this that this kind of thing happens as seldom as it does.
I'm glad it seems to have worked out OK in the end. Re Ebay, there is such a wide variation in what people call "good" condition, I've seen B&O especially described as near mint and it looks like it went through a war. I want, when I buy used, prime cosmetics first, it's easier to repair most electronic issues for me than the cosmetic stuff, and with B&O cosmetics/looks is a prime reason for owning it.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Can I become a moderator, please?
Cheers

That was meant as a joke BTW...
