Hello,

I recently relocated from Europe back to the good old USA and brought my Beomaster 7000. I would like to convert it from 220 to 110 VAC. Is this possible? Or do I need a different power supply? I am handy with a soldering iron.

I plan on eventually overhauling the receiver, but want to be careful to not create any new problems.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

You can rewire the transformer. Change the value of the fuse and it should work.

The Beomaster 5500 and 6500 have the same powersupply, so when you become a silver or gold member, you can get the service manual from one of them. Might be handy when you're planning to rewire more equipment.

Thanks,

I used to be a silver member, but haven't been active for a while, as I was changing careers, selling a home, etc. I still have the service manual I downloaded back then. I found the diagram and will attempt to rewire it. I was just a little confused as the different power supplies have different part numbers, and I was concerned that the coils might not support going from one voltage setting to another.

Edit:  It looks as if I can easily convert it from 220 V to 110 V and use a 5A fuse. 120 V appears to be a separate transformer. I'll go with 110 VAC and see how it works. I'll just measure the voltage before connecting the power supply to the internals to make sure it's safe, but I don't think it will be a problem.

Thanks,

Brian

After a year being packed away and a move half-way around the world, I finally got my Beosystem back up and running with a 220V step-up transformer. I tested it with some old Apple pro speakers I had been using with my laptop. The Apple speakers sound surprisingly good, much better than on my computer, but I ordered a pair of Dali Zensors and am looking forward to once again being able to enjoy this wonderful stereo. I'll just leave it on 220v as it works perfectly with the transformer and I might move back to Europe if the right opportunity arises.
