I have today upgraded from a Mac Mini based roon installation to a roon Nucleus.

The roon Nucleus is via USB connected to the BeoLab 50.

This works excellent.

I can even now control the volume of the BL50 internal DAC via the roon UI.

roon Nucleus => USB => BL50 works very well.

That's interesting. Did you get the plus model? Do you use it for Tidal, or ripped FLAC's etc?

:)

so i tried setting up a roon server (using a mac mini) and connect them to the USB-in on my BL90's. Sound was great, but the main issue that I just could not find a way around was that it reset volume to max every time I started it up. Max on the BL90 is really really loud...

I tried all kinda settings to change this, but no luck...

Hi,

The BL90 App allows you to set default volume for all imputes. Default for powerlink is IIRC 48. However, Oppo SPdif works at the same leve at 40

yep - but it seems that via USB the volume is controlled by the player rather than BL90

The current (1.5) Roon software remembers the volume setting.

And indeed the start up volume for the BeoLab can be configured.

The observed behavior is

BL starts playing with the configured start volume level.

Roon however will show the Roon volume level.

The moment you want to change the volume, either via the BeoLab or via Roon the two are synchronized to the new set value.

At least this is what I observed so far.

I will test this a bit more the coming days.

But I do not have the “maximum volume” problem.

Nucleus Plus is overkill for me.

I got the simple version.

I build a 2TB SSD into the Nucleus.

And I have Tidal streaming.

Music I find precious I buy in the Qobuz store and put on the Nucleus SSD.

My ripped CD collection is on the Nucleus SSD.

For me Roon and BeoLab is an excellent combination and the user interaction experience I appreciate.

hi Flere, is your lab 50 still connected to a B&O tv also?

and if you connect the Roon Nucleus to the usb port of the master Lab 50, how does that work to activate the speakers ?
is that automaticity done by starting Roon on a tablet ?

seems that it's impossible to connect the Nucleus directly to the Eclipse tv

thanks

Hi Jan,

No, my BL50 master is only connected via USB to the ROON Nucleus.

I do not have a TV anymore, already for 1.5 years.

I control the ROON Nucleus via the ROON Mac app on my Apple iMac or via the iOS ROON app on iPad or iPhone.

When I start the music on the ROON the BL50s are activated and start playing the music.

When the ROON stops playing music then after 10 seconds the BL50s will go to sleep again.

Volume control is via volume control on the ROON.

Works very well. And of course super sound.

Flere:

Volume control is via volume control on the ROON.

What I mean is that the volume is controlled via the ROON apps.

And in my configuration the ROON Nucleus tells the BL50 via the USB connection what to do with the volume.

So the digital signal goes from the Nucleus to the ROON without volume interference.

So the BL50 is actually doing the volume computation.

You can use PowerLink cable connection between Eclipse and BL50 master.

And USB for the Nucleus.

Switching will be automatic and according to the priority you configure in the BL50 with the B&O app.

Flere,
what kind (brand/type) of USB cable have you used?
Apparently that is very important to get the best result.

thanks

Connected the Beolab 50's to a Nucleus with an audio USB cable, works perfect !!
The Eclipse is also still connected with the 50's.
Sound is amazing , very happy !!

What settings do you change to prevent the Roon for stopping when Mac goes into screensaver? After half an hour the music suddenly stops.

Hi I am trying to get my hands on a pair of 50”s. Here it means breaking up walls as I hate cables in sight. I have an open floorplan and want to run the 50”s in the living and a second pair in the kitchen synchronized. Probably a shape.

I have a Oppo 203 which I can use as a RAAT endpoint on a BS core optical and the 50”s on a nuclues, here comes the question will it run synchronized? So is there any way that multiroom will run on Roon synchronic or am I stuck on the BS Cores? I won”t cast, I hate google and airplay is not for me.

I will wire them with PL as well on a system 4 but I would like to have the option of multi room Roon. The volume is great I was looking for this as I still want easy control, but sound is more important.
