Just bought a used, but good shape Beosound 2000. A couple of questions for long time owners of this model:

1. How is the bass response supposed to be on this piece? I'm finding it surprisingly "flat" even on electronic music and with the bass frequencies boosted to max. A brief Google search turns up some similar feelings. I remember hearing the 2000 in the stores when it was being produced and I don't remember it sounding that way. For rough comparison the Beosystem 2500 is quite good in the lower registers.

2. The glass door is affixed in the middle. Should there be any wobble?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

let me start with your easy question. If by wobble you mean that when pressing in along the very top edge of the glass, it will deflect inwards causing the bottom edge to deflect outwards. This is normal. Left to right play is very minimal.

Now, with respect to your bass response question, results are very subjective so its hard to come up with a definitive answer. I've had mine mounted on the wall and setup in the tables stand. In either event, I've been satisfied with the bass response. I just put on a Chemical Brothers CD, which has serious low bass and it seems reasonable to me set to 0 bass with loudness on. Setting bass to 5 results in noticeable increase in bass.

These are small drivers so one can't expect room shacking bass response, but the unit is in my opinion respectable.

You may want to check the speaker settings to see if someone has altered them.

To get into test mode, unplug the power, then plug it back in and press standby, 2650. You only have 30 seconds to do this. You should see 8888 in the display if you've done it correctly.

When you're in test mode, press 13 and write down the 4 digit number. Post back what you found.

Hi,

The first and 3rd digits show the level set for the treble drivers and the 2nd and 4th digits show the level set for the bass drivers. The maximum position is 9. You could try setting all 4 drivers to 9 and see if you prefer the sound like that.

The right bass driver is set to 7, the left is set to 8. I don't think that changing them both to 9 will make such a huge difference that you'll be amazed, but you may like it better that way.

You could also try lowering the treble drivers a bit.

Good luck!
