Frustration is my middle name! I've spent a lot of time on my Brogram 6000 and still don't have a properly working unit.
I bought it on Ebay - as is. I have it mostly working right and expect that I can get it into totally proper condition but this one's got me. I've never seen anyone mention the two silver rods that the entire contraption rides on. Each rod is located on the big unit's base plate, held in a groove with one screw and a small rectangular plate. Here's the problem:
Even with a known good belt on the motor and even with adjustment to the pulley to get good tension, I can't get the tone & sensor arms to travel the complete distance from outer edge of an LP to the label. Depending on how I adjust any of the four screws that hold the silver rods in place, the mechanism will travel part of the distance. Loosening a different screw allows the arms to travel a different portion of the trip. I would expect that all four screws should be reasonably tight, but that definitely won't allow the arms to travel anywhere. (The longer of the two silver rods has a visible curve to it. That seems wrong to me.)
At this point I am looking at a Beogram 4002 type 5503 I have. (The Beogram 6000 is a type 5502; hmmmm....) What makes the Beogram 6000 a quadrophonic turntable? It seems to be identical except for the additional PC board with the four pre-amps. Which leads me to the question: can I simply pull that PCB off the 6000, plug it onto the 4002 and finally proceed with putting together my quad system?
If my simplistic solution isn't so good, does anyone have an idea how I should proceed with this 6000? Swap the silver rods with a pair from the 4002? Replace the complete workings of the 6000 with stuff from the 4002? I've already peeked into the inner workings - it seems like only half a dozen single-stranded wires to deal with.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Jack
I would highly recommend https://beolover.blogspot.com/
click and you will instantly know why,- best of luck!
Sorry if I wasn't clear about my dilemma. I'm familiar with the Beolover BlogSpot, YouTube how-to's, etc., but I don't see anything in that link. My motor problem isn't the TT motor, but the little one that moves the tone and sensor arms.
I'm not aware of Beolover ever publishing anything regarding any kind of 6000-4002 swap, etc.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. Makes me want one of those digital RPM testers.

If a carriage rail is bent, it will need replacing. They are identical from Beogram 4002 to 4004.

a-HA !! I will swap out the rail(s) and expect much better performance. But now I will have to ponder just how that rail could have gotten bent in the first place. What might have pushed down on it with enough force to bend it? Actually, the screw rod next to it was also bent. I've been able to straighten it out somewhat just using two opposing fingers. It used to drag a bit when the traveler was near the middle, but with the addition of lubrication it seems to be okay.
No, really. How the heck could you bend that rail? Thanks for your confirmation of my theory, Martin. Also, the Beocorder bands arrived today. Now, to keep fingers crossed and see how the cass.player works. Then, I'll need to take a look at the Aux receptacle. I've found that, when I have something plugged in there, if I press against the plug this way or that, it silences the audio output completely. Something touching something it's not supposed to be touching.
