Made the update to iTunes 11 during the weekend which is a big step forward for what i'm using iTunes

Since the update, BM-Link is still working fine with the N.Music, but is not responding to N.Radio commands.

Did anywone made the same experience?

Yes ... I did a test for you: N-MUSIC works, N-RADIO does not. Sad Same with LinkPlayer 2 .. if that is any consolation Angry

It seems (according to this extract from a blog/review) that Apple have made changes in their RADIO functionality - and I presume that has impacted the BM-LINK implementation :-(

http://blogs.computerworld.com/desktop-apps/21414/first-look-apples-pretty-itunes-11s-speed-demon:

A little speculation

Some may notice the appearance of a new dedicated 'Radio' button near the top of the iTunes browser. This is interesting because in recent years radio has seemed a poor relative to the rest of the media offerings inside iTunes -- and still do:

  • The default collection of stations is hardly ever updated and the playback interference remains more or less the same.
  • The listings aren't accurate -- BBC Radio 6 Music is described as: "Classic concerts and sessions from the BBC's vast music store." Which it isn't, as this is the broadcaster's best alternative music channel.

At least one analyst believes the elevation of iTunes' Radio offering could emerge to be a placeholder for the company's much-anticipated move to launch its own streaming radio service to compete with Pandora and/or Spotify.

" Apple’s iTunes 11 has made the current generation “Radio” product far more prominent, adding it to the horizontal feature bar that runs across the top of the screen. While the service underlying that Radio button is unappealing to most consumers today, we believe the radio service can easily be updated to incorporate the functionality we envisioned in our October 2012 blog post, click here. We continue to believe an iRadio product is critical for Apple to create a local advertising/commerce strategy, tying together Maps, Passbook, Siri and a new music service (which we are calling iRadio for now)," writes BTIG analyst, Richard Greenfield.

N.Radio is not linked with the Radio functionalities from iTunes. N.Radio is a Playlist which contains your preferred radio stations.

From my point of view BM Link and Linkplayer are not able to access the playlist N.Radio in iTunes 11.

You are correct.  And I checked that my "N-RADIO" playlist was still there.  And it was.  So I don't know what caused the breakage -- but clearly playlists in general do work.

I think that Linkplayer is build on BM-Link basement.

I wrote an email to Anders the BM-Link developer. For my needs, BM Link is a fantastic solution. Pressing N.Music and my MacMini is waking up and starts playing music. I control my iTunes library with the remote app from apple. Especially with the iPad, the remote solution works great and it’s very comfortable to browse through the library.

Linkplayer 2 is also great, but newer worked that stable in my environment (mainly the iPhone app was not working properly and was not comfortable like the Remote app).

Question to Phil and Anders: How about sharing the code as an open source project?

For my needs, BM Link is a fantastic solution.

All my LinkPlayer 2/HDMI fixes of several weeks ago have fallen apart and I can't reproduce the fix.

So I have started using BM-Link again . . .

And I have discovered a benefit from (y)our non-functioning n_RADIO Smile

I use N-MUSIC for N.Music,
and I use N-RADIO to open up the MacMini's sound card to the MasterLink ... results is that my N.Radio is now Spotify Big Smile

Elephant - that is sounding interesting - can you give as a little more information how you achieved that?

My christmas wish is to have a working N.Radio solution... Sad

...and it would be great if everyone who is using BM-Link can drop a message to Anders from BM-Link and tell him the story why you are still using his solution

Well, as you discovered, [N-RADIO] command does not result in any audio being transmitted on the master link, however the BeoPort and the remote link room(s) are working and the ML is "open" ... so I then use my remote desktop to access my MacMini and start it playing Spotify (or any other audio source) and the Mac transmits the audio across the "open" Beoport and ML to the speakers in the remote link room(s).

Equally I could reverse the sequence, I could use [PC] to access the MacMini using the BV8's screen, start Spotify, and the press [N-RADIO] and then pick up the music in remote link room(s) Smile

Hi! I have a question: How does iTunes 11 react by N.Music? Which playlist starts? I´m using iTunes 10 with Linkplayer and love the iTunes DJ-Functionality. Actually linkplayer starts directly iTunes DJ. But I heard that iTunes DJ is not longer existing in iTunes 11.... Sad

So some tests, the things I do for you guys Smile ....

BM-Link

  1. Press [N.MUSIC] and it started playing the track I had left off playing when I was last in iTunes
  2. colour arrow keys had no effect (I can't remember if they are supposed to with BM-Link)

LinkPlayer 1 (1.1.1)

  1. Press [N.MUSIC] and it started playing a track in a Blue mode playlist
  2. yellow and blue colour arrow keys work
  3. but red and green do not
  4. ^ key skips forward a track
  5. >> skips forward a playlist
  6. nn(GO) goes to that playlist ... my highest numbered playlist is 33
  7. 1(go) goes the first smart playlist ... which is NOT the Genius mixes, nor Genius playlist, nor any of the non-smart playlists (neither standard nor personal)

LinkPlayer 2 beta 4.11

  1. Press [N.MUSIC] and it started playing a track in a mode called "Spotify playlist" -- which happened to be a Spotify playlist .... how that happens I do not know, the playlist number is 2 (and track 11, i.e. the last one I was on)
  2. ^ key skips to the next Spotify track
  3. >> skips to a regular playlist (number 3 track 1) which is a Genius Playlist but the screen still shows "Spotify playlist"
  4. >> skips through the Genius Playlists until it starts with my personal standard playlist (i.e. not a smart playlist)
  5. >> skips through these playlists including N.RADIO (which plays nothing)
  6. >> comes to the last on the non-smart playlists and can't go any further
  7. the very first of these playlists is called "Starred" ... but does not exist in my iTunes (I presume Philippe or iTunes have this as a built-in default)
  8. yellow arrow key gives iTunes Albums, but why is that particular album number 1 ??? I can't work that out
  9. green arrow key switches to iTunes Artist mode (and keeps playing the current song)
  10. red arrow key switches to iTunes Genres for the current playing song
  11. blue arrow key switches to the first of my iTunes smart playlists - I suspect I wont get back to the Spotify playlist without using the keyboard in PC mode to select Spotify as a source - but nothing would start - so I >> to the next smart playlist and music started playing

Hope that helps ... happy to do more tests if so desired

Under BM-Ling the colored keys change between artist, album, playlist, and genre. This still works under iTunes 11. It's only N.Radio that doesn't work.

If you go to n.music then pick a station in your n.radio playlist, you can then still go up and down through the channels. But the info doesn't show up on the head unit's screen; only the channel name. Shut off the system and start n.music again and you'll be in the n.radio playlist still. This is with a Beosound 4.

I sent Anders an email maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago asking when we might see an update of BMlink.  I didn't receive an answer.
