It's correct. On demand by dealers the Eclipse will be maintained.

Probably with the C9 panel. They can't keep selling them with the C7, surely?

No, the C7 panel can not be sold after the end of this year.....so ;-)

The dealers however, are allowed to sell the current version untill in the spring next year.

But do remember that they (already) sell with a big discount - and they are still good.

Yes, the dealers were very heavy advocating for a version 2......which is right imo.

They and we need BV’s in the 55/65” sizes - not everyone is in the ‘business’ for a huge BV Harmony (or just a soundbar with a regular LG tv).

I guess this is not official yet, but seem to be correct..

The HQ weren’t that positive - the special version of the LG tv part is rather expensive for them.

So don’t expect a version 2 to be cheaper than the original was.

What discount can be expected ? My dealer was not willing to give discount.

BV Horizon 48 / V1 40 / BL 17 / Beoplay S3 all black

V1 / BL 3 / BS Essence MKII / Beoplay A3 all white

BS Moment / BS 3000 / BS 3200 / BL 400 all silver

Here is one example from DK:

But it seems, that not all dealers have begun discounting.

Probably will be more common in the fall.

If it’s selling that well, then why not just keep updating the panels. Spend the available time etc on new products.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Selling 'that well' in B&O terms or LG terms? ie. B&O probably signed a minimum quantity with LG where they committed to a certain number of parts (panels) to obtain a certain buy price. It takes time to reach that supply point, which is why they can't just 'keep updating the panels'.

I would have expected this eventually.

b&o stock of C7 (custom) panels has finally run out and they need to get another run of the current panels made today - C9. Any consumer television manufacturer makes a run of a certain series, once that is superseded by its replacement, the old model is simply not made anymore and whichever are still floating about unsold, will eventually be.

LG will not make a small run of a discontinued model, does not make sense.

Same will apply to Eclipse V2 C9 panels, those eventually will run out and either the ecplise is abandoned or b&o must buy whatever is current then and hopefully mechanically fits, C12??

Will the c9 fit on the eclipse sound centre it does it also require a special version ?

Is it the connector that’s special ?

That is the ‘problem’ - the LG-C7 was costummade for B&O because of the back part.

And a new C9-version must be as well.

That makes it much more expensive for B&O, than just to use a stock version of the tv....and risky too, because they don’t know how many the can sell.

wouldn't you think if they made a V2 that they would work around that? The C9 is mostly flat on bottom so if they basically have the soundcenter top have a flat mounting surface then it wouldn't matter much any more and also they may need a bit more play in the mounting brackets, but that's about it. The dsse board would have to be updated to to work with the app, but other than that it can stay mostly the same if not nearly identical.

Sure, but not sure hat is what will happen - at least that is not what I have heard.

it would also actually be a new model - not a version 2.

We will see, when it is announced officially.

Well, there's an irony for me as I distinctly remember a couple of Eclipse customers being sold their TVs on the basis that they were modular and would be easily upgradable to a future panel update in future.

One of two things are going to happen here. Any Eclipse v2 will have a new panel which does allow Eclipse v1 users to purchase the panel component and drop it in their existing setup (won't be cheap though and, really, is the difference between a C7 and C9 worth the expense?) OR it will be very different and not interchangeable with the v1 design. Knowing B&O, probably the latter.

It probably would be cheaper/easier to swap the Eclipse v1 for a v2. There will be quite a few potential customers for a pre-loved discounted Eclipse v1.

Reasons for developing a V2?

Customers fall into roughly (but not exhaustively) 3 Customer Groups:-

  1. Those that can afford a large screen BV, prepared to pay for it and update immediately for bigger, better, later etc...

  2. Those that can afford a large screen BV, but look at it as a sunk cost, depreciating product for a relatively long period of time.

  3. As 2 above have not purchased because they don't like the current design/spec.

  4. Those that never want to or cant own a new BV for specific reasons.

So simplistically and business-like:-

Group 1:  I would say is tiny because of the financial implications and probably does not justify the development cost for B&O.

Group 2 are bread and butter customers but won't buy again for some time - mainly driven by the high financial cost of an upgrade in short time spans and prefer to wait several generations to get value out of their existing model.

Group 3 are potentially a large group of new customers who could buy-in but either don't like the current design or the price/spec. This is the Group B&O has to target for growth.

Group 4 can never by definition be a primary purchase customer.

Interchangeable panels will do nothing for any of these 4 groups and even less for B&O. The only realistic approach is to target groups 1 and 3 with new complete models to drive Sales.

My guess is that B&O will adopt the BeoPlay model. i.e. essentially the same repeated offerings, slight spec upgrade as raw products roll-out new specs and ultimately re-package all new TVs into a new form-factor. Harmony = Eclipse + revised layout.

Just an OLED in an BeoVision 10/11/14 look would be just perfect for me!

It would be nice to have 1 design that just keeps getting updated with the latest tech every 2 of 3 years or so...

I agree. Would love a BV14 OLED. Sadly it's not going to happen. We all know B&O cleared out their vision team and the customisation to make a BV14 is immense - ie you can't just 'plonk' a LG panel in to the frame and the frame itself isn't cheap to produce.

Although the Eclipse looks decent, remember it's a very clever design mostly (stand ommitting) made out of plastic.

Also, I don't think updating every 2 to 3 years is that important. Is there really that much difference in panel quality? IMHO panel quality has stablised hugely recently. Even my 'old' BV12-65 still looks amazing. Why on earth would you need a new OLED to replace your exisitng OLED in only 2-3 years?

At even modest viewing distances I really struggle to see that much difference between HD and UHD. A decent film that benefits from HDR yep that’s noticeable. I’m still waiting for the 12-65 to reduce in price which says a lot about it.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
