the aluminum cover on my recently acquired unit was unglued when I got it. What is the best way to repair it? How is the mechanism operated?

There are quite a few threads showing that repair. Here is one I posted a couple of years ago. The Beogram 8000/8002 deck and aluminum lid were not glued. They have double-sided tape that has deteriorated over time. There is also a metal piece under the tonearm compartment deck that has deteriorated tape as well. One other spot is the little hinge for the dust cover.  It that tape comes off then the dust cover doesn't operate quite right.
