I wonder if I'm alone in thinking this would be a really cool thing?

I wonder if all those that closed down in recent years are willing to give it another go??

New, or Used ?

Personally, at the moment, I wouldn't have an official dealership if it was offered to me for free..    Used?  It's getting harder every year.  The good times are over - and now it's one big bunfight....

I love the brand dearly, but doing it full time certainly removes the old rose coloured glasses for sure...  I now get excited over the rare vintage stuff !!

However, follow your dreams!

I thought that it would be cool in the 1990s but nowadays it surely would be a great way to backruptcy. As a business man & investor, BANG&OLUFSEN have had too many decades of having an EXTREMELY chequered history!!!

Probably the BEST time was in the early 80s when my dealer sold Technics, Panasonic & SONY alongside the range.

I have, and even know which unit, and in which town I'd like to do it in.

But am probably about £100,000 short of being able to do it properly, so good luck to those that can.

I have ... but also lack the cash

But last weekend we discovered there is a Scandinavian Church here (!! even close to where we lived 36 years ago, and we never knew it) that was running a weekend Christmas Fair ... so we went exploring (and young Soren and his family will be pleased to know that Sue bought pickled herring and toppings and is now has had the meal that Soren's mum made for our visit several times !!

However inside the mansion (where they have converted one "ballroom" into the chapel) I could not spot a single piece of B&O ... terrible !

So I thought that next year I might rent a tent and put my vintage B&O on display ...  "roll up, roll up, tuppence a look" Smile

As you can see from this photo ... Volvo had taken a "stand" and had two cars on display ... now why wouldn't have B&O ?

I must admit I would not do it, the money required to open a dealership is to expensive by the time you factor in shop staff and overheads. Good luck to those that do but as lee says the good times are gone, it's getting harder for everyone, and people are not willing to pay the engineer's for there time. If you read some of the articles, Europe is not doing as well, as china and Russia, but how long before the bubble will burst

On topic: Are B&O dealerships still run as franchises on the basis that if you don't deliver sufficient turnover/ profit  then the franchise reverts to B&O UK or B&O DK etc?

If you don't do the turnover. Maybe B&O would  just sample you loads and loads of products in wierd unsaleble colour combinations until the dealerships goes bust Big Smile

Or you could be forced to buy shelves at £400 a piece, then a small desk at £1400, then another small stand for another £400...  You could then start with (as StUrrock said), the products which arrive in your store which will never sell in a month of Sundays.  The products which do arrive are usually 'buggy' and likely to annoy everyone involved, and when the dealer asks for support it's usually slow.

Then, you could call your RDM to complain, who won't return your calls - and then you find the only way to get heard is to shout the loudest at your head office and Denmark.

I know one dealer who (last time i spoke to him) hadn't seen his RDM (Regional Development Manager) for over a year - and these are the people who are supposed to be working hand in hand with you to help you grow your business..

I'm not talking about just the UK here - I speak to dealers worldwide, on a daily basis.

So - would I take a B&O Franchise now?  Not on your nelly.  It seems the only time to have one is in the boom times.  Otherwise, you could do what the clever dealers have done and use Bang & Olufsen as a nice, credible sign above the door - and push other products as well to create a revenue stream which B&O just cannot give you.

Dealers on here, tell me if i'm wrong! ....

What I do absolutely love about the idea of being a B&O Dealer though, is that all your stock is there and ready to sell - and when you do sell one, you just order it and it appears.  No chasing around the country, no cleaning, no repairing, no photographing, no listing.. aahhh... heaven.

As a final word though, and just to put myself back in my place, B&O would never offer me a Franchise anyway... I'm 'tainted' now. Embarrassed

Reminds me of an Adidas shop on a nearby Factory Oulet shopping centre - it's basically stocked with end of line items and stuff that didn't sell.

They've had a pair of Adult size 13 trainers in purple with yellow stripes since the store opened over 7 years ago!!

Form an orderly queue please!Big Smile

I guess it depends on your location.

Here in SE Fla., the ones that have closed in the last decade or so are:

The Falls

Merrick Park

Las Olas

Mizner Park

Aventura

All of the B&O store-within-a-store at Sound Advice, which were numerous

The ones that have opened are:

Miami Beach

DCOTA

Gulfstream

Now, often you do find some of the same characters at the new stores, but most of the time the actual underlying businesses are not the same; i.e., these are usually not plain business relocations.  The reasons are left as an exercise to the reader.
