Anyone used the (MCL)2P to drive passive speakers, when connected to a tv with RJ45/PL outputs?

Something to consider besides using the fully wired PL cables???

Hi MM,

B&O TVs and audio products since 2013 (with RJ45 PL sockets) don't provide a trigger voltage for pin 1 of the Powerlink plug, only pin 4.  This means that they can't trigger a Beolink Passive or MCL2P correctly via a normal (fully wired) RJ45 to Powerlink cable.

Instead, please use this modified version of the cable when triggering a Passive or MCL2P:-

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks Steve - I had something like that in the back of my head.

However, I did set up a MCL2P using a adapter (RJ45 to DIN PL) and a fully wired (DIN) PL cable and it triggered the 2P.

With the Passive/the ML/MCL Converter version I had no luck....it refused to trigger the amp.

What I was worried about was, that - even when the speakers played just fine - there was a message in the soundmenu of the tv saying ‘missing’ flashing.

I’ll have to return to that setup anyway, because I wanted to bring a second 2P (for driving the surround channel speakers).

I just wanted to be sure not having to return a third time.

As I wrote, the tv (an Avant/2015 model) is able to trigger the 2P.....the speakers played as I left the place.

Any further comments?

^ Interesting discussion.

Question for MM - when using the MCL2P in this way, does the 'mute' function work OK?  (I vaguely recall having Muting (rather than 'trigger') problems using an MCL2P in the distant past, but I can't remember what cables I used!).

Hi Guy,

The Mute function won't work this way, you would need to turn down the volume instead of muting the amp (it is the Mute output that is missing from recent B&O master products, starting with Beomaster 5 from 2013 onwards).

All versions of MCL2P, Beolink Converter and Beolink Passive will work with the modified cable that I mentioned above.  Some later Beolink Passives will work on a standard (fully wired) RJ45 to Powerlink cable, but the operation may be unpredictable after they have been turned on and off several times.

Kind regards, Steve.

Anyone with a personal experience with this kind of setup?

I’ll have to dig into this once more....Steve and others.

Since the cables are already in place, it would be a pia to have to replace these with the ones that he could buy from SoundsHeavenly.

However, talking to different persons I hear different versions of what has to be changed at the plugs.

Some say 1 and 4, others say 4 and 7 has to be short-cicuited.........I am quite confused.

I guess it would be best to replace the DIN plug at one end with a Rj45 connector in order to eliminate the now used adapter and resolder (?) at the DIN plug at the other end (where the 2P is).

I see this in the Beolink Handbook v 1.9
