Beogram 8002 tonearm won't always move to record

My trusty Beogram 8002 has developed an erratic problem recently. More than half the time now, when I press play, the tonearm will start to move toward the record, only to reverse and stop. The sensor arm bulb is lit, the turntable turns freely, the display is showing accurate speed.

Any ideas? I'm hoping this is a simple fix instead of having to go through a full unit re-cap (I bought a recap kit from Dillen on eBay several years ago, intending to rebuild a non-functional backup unit).

Thanks in advance!

It's a CPU reset due to unstabile power supply.

Do a full recap.
Check for cracked solder joints.
Replace CPU socket.
General cleaning and lubrication.
- All very common.

Martin,

Do you still sell the recap kits? I bought one from you many years back on eBay intending to rebuild a backup player, and never got around to it.

Given how old the recap kit is, thinking it would be good to buy a fresh set (maybe 2)
