I have a weird example of a bug on Beosound 5
After the factory restore, I can no longer update SW.
It says I can't update SW because there is no connection to the server.
Going into the settings shows me no internet connection.
N-RADIO working  and finds many stations, but without logos.
What's the problem?

Thanks

It is "standard" that settings will show "no connection", this is something you can ignore, if it can load the radio stations, then you have internet connection. The logos takes a long time(days) to be completely loaded, and I have also seen there are some XML problems in the log files. Some time ago, other people also talked about the update server not being available, but it was active again after some days. Maybe B&O have decided to shut down the server again ?

It is understandable that they discontinue products, but a "internet product" like BM5, must not have problems with SW update and stations afterwards. It costs a lot of money, and should be expected to continue to have access to backend for a very very long time in my opinion. It cannot cost B&O that much money to have that backen running.

My fear is that they have no people, that knows anything about those servers anymore. Which is kind of worse.

Keep the BM5 running for some days, and see if radio covers appear over time, and keep trying the SW update.

The USB stick should be created with the ImageUSB program, you should not just copy files to the USB.

You need to attach a external keyboard, and have the USB inserted, then shut down BM5, and hold down ESC or F12(cant remember) while booting, this allows the system to boot from the USB.

It cannot be used in service mode. It is only for booting of the system from USB.

Hi

Thanks for help..

I did all that no without success :(

but..Some good news :)

I manage to update SW to latest version..

Last night BS5 connected to server and wauu...now working but not in full.

N-RADIO is OK..can see logo from net. radio stations.

N- music is working.

Now only problem is :  that with BEO4 remote I can control it remotely sometimes and sometimes not.

Can change the volume a few times, switch between functions and then a few seconds later it does not work anymore :(

and than ...minute later ..is ok again..hmmm

and... I can't wake up  BS5 with a remote control from ST-by.

DAMN... :(

Are you sure its role and option is set up correct ? Is it standalone, or connected to something via masterlink ?

The BM5's has trouble with the mainboard, maybe your is about to go bad ?

I have just read the service manual. You should shutdown the BM5 from service menu, or disconnect from mains. Install the USB with service tool and keyboard in USB port, connect power, and keep pressing ESC while you start the BM5 again. This should give you the boot option of selecting the USB drive for boot.

It worked like a charm on the BM5 I had.

Hi

yes..i have new main board and yes.. it is standalone..AM option 1 as it should be,

But if i do as you suggest:  shutdown the BM5 from service menu, or disconnect from mains. Install the USB with service tool and keyboard in USB port, connect power, and keep pressing ESC while you start the BM5 again. This should give you the boot option of selecting the USB drive for boot.

i can see my Toshiba USB key in BM5 system, but i can not go further into the service options. So it's a bug in the USB stick as it is not original one.

I do not have another or is not correct software on USB stick.

What do you mean "i can see USB in BM5 system" ? When pressing ESC during power on, the mainboards BIOS should show you a list of devices it can boot from. There you should select the USB stick. You cannot use the stick in the windows xp mode of BM5 once it is booted up.

Could you take a photo of the boot select screen after you press ESC from boot ?

That looks weird. Where did you get the service tool ?

Have you tried with another USB stick ?

let's see where we are

The situation is still unresolved.
The unit works 90% correctly.
Still, an error is present.
so..when BS5 I turn off and on again before the unit goes into ST-BY everything is ok and it works as it should.
If I leave the unit off for a long time, I can no longer switch it on via the remote control. I can turn it on manually on the screen.
It also happens that the remote control freezes during operation. Nothing works remotely .. and a minute later everything is ok again. I've changed cables, tried multiple remote controls and the error is still the same no matter what I do.
I attached the BS5 service tool to the unit. It doesn't help.
and have maim board SW 1.38a
bios sw 1.15
ML sw 2.36

I would take out the origibal disc, insert another disk, boot up on the usb tool, and restore a complete new image.

this way you still have the original, and you can find out if it is a problem with the old installation.
