Hello all

I am new to this forum and hope for your help on my (new old) Beomaster 5500.

When I turn on the system the sound is very low with a lot of treble and no bass.

I can get the sound back into normal quality by increasing or decreasing the volume on the master control panel – it makes some loud scratchy noises and then everything is back to normal and works fine until I switch the system off.

The problem is mostly related to the tuner - when I start the system with CD or TAPE the problem is occurring some less. Also I cannot MUTE the system with the master control panel.

I guess this is all related – will there be a quick fix for this?

Thanks a lot for any good ideas.

Regards

Jesper

Sounds like a combination of more issues.
Replace the backup battery, then set and store your preferred settings again.
Replace capacitors in the power supply area.
Connect speakers to the set 1 sockets (Set 2 mutes locally by the Beolink box(es)).

Hi Martin

Thanks a lot for your input and proposals.

I have ordered the capacitors for the power supply area and I am now waiting for these to arrive by mail.

But a new problem has appeared:

The Beomaster 5500 now goes into standby after app. 6-10 seconds. I have noticed that the cooling ribs to the rear left are getting very warm. Also I have observed that the cooling fan is not running anymore.

Are these problems also related  to the  caps in power supply area or is this another issue?

Kind regards

Jesper

That's the typical symptoms of bad idle current trimmers.
They will need replacing and readjusting to factory specs.
Do one channel at a time, beginning with the channel with the highest idle current.

The original poster hasn't logged in for about a year so I suppose he won't come around to answer your
question any day soon but I suggest you try the above mentioned and come back. Then we'll all know.

Hi Marten,

I have replaced the lithium battery in processor and changed the muting relay.

The problem is always the radio when selected to turn the unit on, the volume is next to nil, if I increase the volume the sound comes on very low, then when I select any other source the unit will play perfectly on all source inputs including the radio.

The heatsink does not get hot and stays at an even temperature.

Your help would be appreciated.

regards
