Funny world, I just posted a piece in part on my Beomaster 2400 and how a problematic switch scared me into thinking the amplifier was failing.
Since it only happened once in a month I incorrectly believed that this was a one time occurrence. Unfortunate not so as it just happened again.
Interesting, at least to me, that once again I did not think of the switch but was convinced a second time that the 2400 was giving notice.
The volume was about 25% of what it should have been and the sound was just terrible.
At first I thought the tracking might be too light on the Beogram 4002, so I lifted the arm and had it drop again, with no change in the dreadful distortion.
I then thought to see if the sound was as bad playing the Beocord 8004 and was surprised when both phonograph and tape recorder were playing at the same time.
There simply are no words for how stupid I felt falling for the same scenario twice….. part of the curse of old age.
In any case having no experience with this sort of thing I am suspecting that the selector switch is dirty and could use some attention.
Any thoughts on this, and if you know what is wrong, please be so kind as to tell me how to fix it. Many thanks!
