Hi

I have just bought a airport express Generation 2. I have connect my beolab 3s directly to the AE, but the volume is too loud through this connection, even adjust the volume to the lowest level(next level down is mute).

Would this problem been fixed if i connect the AE to an external DAC with volume control through optical connection?

Many thanks

Sounds like the AE is on fixed volume output? It does work with a direct connection to the BL3's, you don't need another DAC

But a good DAC would improve the sound Smile

Espescially if you listen to higher quality -files.

Hello martinw

Thanks for your reply, i do not mean the AE is  ot working with lab 3s. The current volume is not uncorformatable, but it is quite loud. Even i set the volume vey low, the result is still very loud. How can I change the fixed volume output into adjustable?

Many thanks

I need to make sure the AE's volume control can work with beolab 3s first, or I have to return it.

Yes, I did. I have done some online searching, the 2nd generation AE seems to have higher volume output level than the previous one. This might be the reason why the volume is loud.

I would not say the volume is at uncomfortable level, as I have a baby, even the lowest volume setting, it is still a bit too loud for my baby.

I recommend the Playmaker for these scenarios....i could never get a good solution with apple TV's, Airport expresses etc....got the playmaker a few months ago and I'm very happy with this

What is the volume set to on the iPhone/ iPad/ mac etc you are trying to play music from? Have you tried turning that down too?

I had the same issue and put a short volume cable in between the airport express and ipod connector. For example: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155954-VC20-Volume-Control/dp/B00001P4XH/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357589241&sr=8-2&keywords=volume+control+ipod+cable

Probably not the best for sound quality etc. but it works for me.
