I have a Core connected to 50s by optical. I also have a Beosound 5 that is connected to my Masterlink system, which includes a BV7. The 50s are also connected to the BV7by powerlink. I have recently noticed that listening to radio I find the BS5 to provide a better sound than the Core. This surprised me as the BS5/BV7 is a much older dated platform whereas the Core is much more up to date and I can select 50s in it’s settings, something that is not possible with the BV7. Any thoughts why? Or maybe I just like the sound of older technology better.

I don't think radio would be a good source to use to compare the two products. The better option is to input a digital source like a CD player or media streaming source into the Core and BS5. I'll be really surprised if the DAC on the BS5 is better than the Core for processing.  The Core support High Resolution streaming and audio processing. From what I know the BS5 likely does not. However, in the end audio is all subjective. Whatever sounds better to you is what you should go with :)

All internet radio is compressed so not a great medium for comparison. Have you experimented with lossless CD quality music between Beosound 5 and Core?

They probably paid as much attention to radio sound as most 4K sets pay to an SD picture.

It is nothing that important to me. Just an observation as I found it interesting. Although in the past I have sometimes felt the same about tracks stored on the BM5/BS5 and then listening to Deezer through the Core.

I also have the Core and the BS5...

not sure if I’ve heard an audio quality difference to be honest but I definitely prefer my BS5 just for the look and feel and the tactile sensations of using the panel and controls... the Core is a newer product but it’s missing the beauty for which we all love B&O - the design!

I'm listening now to Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Colorado" on my Beosound Shape (Core), playing on a Beosound 5 EncoreStick out tongue

Perfect album for your  BS Shape. In fact I just asked Siri to play the album in my living room speakers :)

You can get the Tactile experience by adding an Essence remote to a Core. The BS Core IMHO is one of the best values B&O’s audio range, just based on how good I find the DAC.
