Hello Everyone, just wondering if anyone has had a Beolab 3500 working when connected thru a masterlink cable to a Beosystem 3.
So here is my setup, Originally I had a Beosound 3000 with a pair of BL6000s in my living room and was using a separate non B&O TV next to it to watch TV. I also had one long Masterlink cable running from my Living room to my Dining room (both rooms are next to each other) where I had a BL3500 on the wall. When in the DInning room I would press "link cd" on Beo4 and that's how I would listen to music on the DInning room.
The BS3000 eventually stopped reading cd's and so I retired it. I then found a Beosystem 3 with a Beovision4-50 for a great price and bought it. So now I have it all set up with the BL6000s in the living room and it sounds and looks great. The Beosystem 3 has a masterlink port on it, so I plugged the Masterlink cable that is connected to the BL3500 in the dinning room into that port. I have a Bluray player plugged into the first HDMI (set to TV)and a cablebox on second HDMI(set to DVD), and a Roku on the third HDMI set to V.MEM}. All works perfect.
Except that I can't get the BL3500 to play anything from the Beosystem 3. I wanted to listen to Spotify on my Roku and a few Concert DVDs that I have in the dinning room when i'm not in the living room.
I did get to see "TV" on the screen of the Beolab3500 after pressing "link tv" but no music came from it, I also got it to show "v.tape" after pressing v.mem but also no sound.
Is the BL3500 even compatible with the Beosystem 3 using masterlink? I've got the manuals of the site and so before I go setting the options on both systems, I wanted to know if anyone had this setup and if they ever got it working.
Hi Micronian
The BL3500 and BS3 are definitely compatible but, if everything is connected to your BS3 via HDMI you willl not get sound on the BL3500. Unfortumately Masterlink does not carry sound from digital inputs. If you use the scart inputs you will get sound.
Soemthing like this may help.

Hi, Thanks Stoobietoo for your response, Indeed when pluggin in a normal AV input not using HDMI, the Beolab 3500 started playing the signal. I didn't know a digital signal could not be transmitted thru the ML cable. I assumed that perhaps the Beosystem would decode the digital signal and transmit the analog sound across or something similar, maybe route the headphones audio through the ML cable.
So after trying a few options I found a solution. All my sources have Left and Right Fixed audio outputs. I ran a pair of audio cables to the analog inputs of the Beosystem 3 in the following way:
AV1 is linked to HDMI A and its set to TV this is where the Bluray player is plugged into, so I ran the L&R cables from the back of the Bluray player and plugged them to the AV1 analog inputs, and Voila it works! So I did the same for the Roku on AV3 set to V.MEM.
As a bonus, the Beovision screen stays off when I turn on the BL 3500 in the dinning room and everything works wonderfully..
I tried to see If I can have both systems on at the same time in case I want to have music throughout the house and yes it's possible too, the only issue is that the volume control stops working on the BL 3500 when both systems are ON. But If I first turn on the Beolab 3500 and raise the volume to what I want it to be, and then turn on the TV in the living room, the volume in the BL3500 stays at what I leave it as, the volume in the living room can be controlled normally. It seems the Digital Audio from the HDMI is sent to the BL6000s in the Living room and the BL3500 picks up whatever is connected to the Analog Inputs.
Thank you again, I would not have thought about this solution in a million years, I assumed the Analog Audio inputs would be deactivated when the HDMI input was assigned to an AV Input but that is not the case, both inputs are on at the same time.
I'm glad I was able to help. It is also fortunate that you have analogue outputs saving you having to buy or add anything to get it working.
I'm not sure why the volume does not work properly on BL3500. It should be independent. It may have to do with the settings on the BS3 because you can choose the sound input for each AV input (maybe set the HDMI to No in the connections Menu).
It might also be to do with the Option Settings on the system. I think the BL3500 should be option 6 and the BS3 option 2.
Good luck and enjoy your new system.
Seems you have an us version of the BS3, because apparently there are no scart sockets for analog input...(?)
I’d set BS3 to V.OPT 1, as you just have video sources to control. And set your BL3500 to L.OPT 6.
Don’t press LINK, when you control your main room sources via BL3500.
Now volume control should work properly on both systems.
hope this helps
Stefan
Yes I have the US version, The Volume control does work on the BL3500 as long as the Beosystem 3 in the Living room is turned off, which is great because that's exactly how I will use it most of the time. Just pop a CD or DVD in the Bluray press play on it, go to the Dinning room press "link TV" (Option 4) and sound starts playing and the IR eye next to the Beovision 4 turns green.
I'm using Option 4 because the Living Room and Dinning room are next to each other and when I pressed "TV" on the Beo 4 the first time, both the Beosystem 3 (Option 1) and BL3500 would turn ON at the same time when I had the BL3500 set to Option 6. That Beo 4 remote has an incredibly long range.
The only time when the volume does not work on the BL3500 is when the Beosystem 3 is ON in the Living room at the same time. I wanted to see how it would sound with all the speakers in case I wanted to have sound fill both rooms. That's when I discovered that the Volume wouldn't work on the BL3500, it would turn on and default at volume 30. Which is not a big problem, because I realized that If I first turn on the BL3500 and set it to a Volume level I want, and then went to the Living room and turned on the Beosystem 3, the Volume on the BL3500 would stay the same. So that's how I'll use it when I want music filling both rooms.
The biggest downside now is just going to be in my pockets because now I want to buy 2 more BL3500 and link them to 2 more rooms around the house, I just love how they look and sound, they fit with everything.
I appreciate your help and Stoobietoo's help too, I'm just happy I have sound, for a second I thought I would have to buy another Beosound to link it to, but then I wouldn't have been able to listen to DVDs. But now it's all good.
Thanks again,
Micronian
