Hi,

im helping my mom and dad with their old BeoVision 7 without HDMI ports. They want to use Netflix, YouTube and so forth but don’t have the required HDMI ports. They als find the beolab 8000 too dominant in the living and because its shared with the kitchen and dinner they want to have a pair of headphones if one of them isn’t watching but still in the room. My dad wants to add a sub to the system. In the kitchen they have a pair of beolab 3 speakers attached to the wall but are not used because the beosound essence is not working anymore. They have a Bose radio Bluetooth WiFi speaker which can easily be controlled by the phone and the buttons on it that fits their need.

The surround setup now is 5:0:

BeoVision 7-32 MKIII with a beolab 7-1;

a pair of beolab 8000 front speakers;

and a pair of beolab 4 rear speakers.

For the new surround setup we have an idea about the setup:

The idea is to replace the beolab 8000 speakers with the beolab 3 speakers from the kitchen. The beolab 4’s will stay where they are. The power link cables (8-pin) of the speakers are put below the floor and come up near the right front speaker. This where the cable for TV set top box comes in and all the cables needed for the tv are put together in a nice sleeve to prevent messy wires.

Now comes the tricky part. They want a smart tv (not from B&o because it’s too expensive) that gives an excellent image. Anyhow, any smart tv which isn’t from B&O will most likely have multiple HDMI Ports but no DIN connectors at all. The next problem is adding a new sub and center speaker to replace the beolab 7-1.

Are there any surround receivers which can be connected to the setup we want with the cables under the floor? Hooking up any smart tv and any center speaker to a surround receiver will be no factor. I have no experience with connecting a pair of headphones to a smart tv and/or receiver but I think this will be no problem as well. I read some things about converting the power link cables to rca but it can go standby in the middle of a movie when their is a quiet scene, they don’t want that either.

My advice is somewhat rigid: get rid of their superb b&o speakers and old tv and replace them with a wireless and easy to set-up surround system from Sonos, h&k or heos and a new smart tv. This is in my opinion far easier to integrate, control, replace or expand and connect to.

I would love to hear if there is a way to fix this without adding too many converters, remote controls and stuff.

I’m sorry for my bad English as it’s not my mother tongue.

There is still Dealers that have 40" Horizon, and the 48" is still on sale.

There is good option to get this TV "Cheap"

And then add a Apple TV.

It will be the best and most easy to use.

And the price will almost be the same, as buying Surround Receiver, center speaker and TV.

And that solution will be a hassle to use.

Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence

Agree - a (preowned) V1-32/40 (with the ATV4 and/or Chromecast dongle) would also do the job.

You can easily configure a Speakers Group with only the internal speakers of the tv for times, when you want a more ‘silent’ listening situation, or use a cabled headphone setup.

I must admit though, that for that the option of connecting bt-headphones to the Horizon seems easier.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Or alternatively, get e.g. an OLED55C9 (+/- 1.200 euro now), a BeoLab 7.x (+/- 100 euro), and a Almando surround decoder (+/- 700 euro).
