Is it possible to fry bm8000 with cdx2 input?
Situation this bm8000 came from full restoration 1 month ago. Played only 5-6 hours (radio, record player). Working nice. No heat on heat sink.
Yesterday first time tryed to play cd with cdx2 and cloud of smoke came from startup pcb component 330nF/275V...
That was problematic in the first place (smoked before) was not replaced by repair guy (I have photos prior reparation and after reparation) , that was the problem the unit went to a repair guy in the first place.
I think I'm done with BM 8000, I just do not have the money to maintain the unit as the repair is 550 EUR last time one month ago. So I'm asking here from you, is there newer more reliable unit out there with the same performance (does not have to be bang olufsen)
The suppression capacitor is a known troublemaker, not only in Beomaster 8000 but everywhere they are used.It has nothing to do with the CD player being connected to the Beomaster.Ideally the capacitor should always be replaced when the Beomaster (or whatever it sits in) is brought in for repairs - and certainly if it has failed.Replace it and it will be fine.It MUST be a class X or X2 type.
In your case, if the Beomaster had a full service merely a month ago, you should return it and have them replace the capacitor under warranty. It shouldn't be an expensive repair anyways.I can supply the correct capacitor.

Thank you Martin.
I called the guy and will bring it back to him as a warranty repairs - he was reluctant, but I insisted anyway and I have proof of the not changed cap on photos.
Thank you for the answer, made me feel much better.
