Hi all,

My first post. I'm not good yet in audio technology. I bought my Beolab 3 speakers because they were the first speakers that faithfully reproduced what I hear in orchestra concert halls and recital halls without any "coloring." Oh, and they didn't cost $20,000+ a pair (I bought them when they were relatively new to the market). So it was my ear, not any technical knowledge that led me to them. I've loved them for a long time.

My issue is that when I start playing a CD or streaming music, about 3/4ths of the time, the speakers only put out static. I found that unplugging and re-plugging the cable from the Essence box to the Beolab Transmitter 1 will eventually fix it. Sometimes I have to do that exercise once, other times 12 times. I wait for the red light in the Transmitter to go off for a few seconds before trying again. Sometimes I have to reboot the transmitter. Sometimes the Essence box. This is time-consuming, frustrating, and a whole movement of a symphony (well, maybe not Mahler or Bruckner) can go by before I have sound.

Background:  when I moved from Chicago to San Francisco, I bought a Beosound Essence, to which I have attached a Beolab Transmitter 1 (and my Beolab 3's have the receivers). The Essence also hosts a CD player (Rega Apollo; sounds terrific, could behave better), and sometimes a Rega Brio integrated amplifier that works with a Rega turntable (the model escapes me). The turntable is just occasionally used, but the CD player and HiFi streaming (Tidal) are used daily. The audio source does not seem to matter.

I've tried several things. Resetting the Essence to factory settings and setting it up again. Resetting the transmitter and receivers and setting them up again. I've played with moving cords around to reduce interference. I've upgraded the cables between the Essence box and the transmitter (Cat 7 or 8 I think, just for insulation purposes, or so I told myself). I've tried separating farther apart the transmitter from the Essence box. I've re-positioned the receivers for the speakers. I've emailed Bang & Olufsen (that didn't get anywhere), I've contacted the local outfits that are supposed to help B&O customers in the Bay Area (B&O lost their lease in Palo Alto, and do not have another location out here (they lost some really excellent people) - the closest shop is in LA. They ignore me. I've scoured the internet. I've scoured these forums. I have no idea what else to do.

Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: the CD player is connected to an Amp, then to the Essence box. Oops. (I told you I wasn't good at this stuff).

Greg:

the speakers only put out static

Hello - can you detail the above please? (I’m French and I hardly understand what it could mean)

I am pretty sure that you might get lots of suggestions - so be prepared for testing.

It is always complicated to solve such problems remotely.

Since you have many vomponents in your setup, the best thing will be to eliminate some of these in order to find out, where the fault could be.

What do you mean by ‘CD is connected to an amp, then to the Essence’?

Normally you would not need an amp, since the amp is in the BL3 (they are powered/active speakers).

Did you try to connect the BL3’s directly to the Essence box - thus eliminating faults in the Transmitter/Receiver/WiSA chain?

Turns out I had mid-traced wires. The CD player is directly connected to the Essence box. Rats. I was hoping that would be an easy fix!

Hello Greg.

I dig up your subject because my installation is similar to yours (except for the Essence that I do not possess) and I encounter the same problem.

In my case only one of my BeoLab 3 (the left one) emit electrostatics sounds (the same as when you start an old stereo) and mostly at the beginning when I start the the BeoSound 4, radio or CD. Then these "static" sounds stop but may come back once in a while. I have tried to improve it by upgrading the wires. No change. For me, it could come from either the Receiver1 transformer or the Beolab 3 inside transformer. And all my 3 elements (BeoSound 4 + 2 BeoLab3) are only 5 meters apart from each another and are in the same room.

Has someone else experienced such "electrostatic noises" and have find a solution to eradicate them? Thanks in advance for your advices.SmileThumbs Up
