A friend was looking to buy a BC9500 to run MS 150 speakers.

I told him it most likely would not be powerful enough (from experience using BC9500 to run passives.)

The guy at B&O shop said to him it would be.  Half the time they do not know what they are talking about from my experience.

Has anyone used this combination and can say yes or no?  Of course it will run them, but run them properly is a different story.

Thanks.

Hi Rex,

I've tried running Beovox Pentas from a Beocenter 9500 and the results were (to my ears) quite disappointing.  I would personally connect a larger power amplifier to the Powerlink output of the BC9500 to drive high-power passive speakers like Pentas or MS150's, instead of using the BC9500's built in power amp.

This improves the sound quite considerably, although you may find that an external power amp is not needed if you only listen at fairly low volume levels.  I've built a large number of these Powerlink to Amplifier cables for customers since setting this up on my own system a few years ago, so using a B&O system with an external power amp and passive speakers is quite a popular approach.

This also works well with later B&O audio systems and TVs which only have Powerlink outputs (ie. no built-in power amplifier).  If you need any further help, please feel free to ask.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Thanks Steve.

This is what I thought.

I had not so good results with RL6000's off the 9500.

An external power amp made them sound like a completely different speaker.

I shall print this out and give it to him in case he needs the appropriate cables.

Danke.
