Hello

I am newbie when it comes to record players and I was hoping somebody could help me diagnose the problem I have with my Beogram 3500 turntable. I just recently received this turntable and have a brand new needle from Sound Heavenly, which works great and everything sounds great. However when the needle arm gets further into the record(arm gets closer to the middle point),I start hearing some scratches from the turntable itself, sounds like the record is hitting something but I can't see where it is touching. The sound isn't constant but very steady, and it only happens with records which are slightly thicker(I've tried couple.

Is there anyone who is able to identify the problem from these poor description ?

If it helps I can post video of it as well.

Thanks,

Petra

Subchassis height correctly adjusted?
If not, the record may scrape on the deck surface.
From you saying that it happens late in the record, I'd say it scrapes at the left side - because of the subchassis' weight shift as the carriage moves left.
Finally, some decks can develop some kind of warping, causing the subplatter to scrape on things inside. If so you will have to diagnose a bit.

Note: Thick records (heavy pressings) are not standard.
I wouldn't expect all decks to play them just like that.

Thanks so much for the answer.

In order to adjust the subchassis height, I am looking at three screws located side of the subchassis. In the manual it's called "turntable height and centering". Are these the right screws to adjust the subchassis ? :s

You were right, it turned out to be the subchassis height adjustment. Turned few screws until the record made it to the end right before rolling back to starting point, and no scraping at all. Thank you so much!
