Hi.  I made the mistake of adjusting the “diaphragm for photo control” on my Beogram 5500, see picture below.  It had not been my intention to fiddle with this when fixing the unit.  At any rate, I have been unable to find anyone who seems to know what this does on one of these later, less sophisticated models (i.e. it’s not a 4002/4004)

At any rate, the unit seems to work fine after I adjusted/cleaned everything else, but seeing as how it was something that was set by the factory, I’m concerned that I screwed something up.  Hopefully, someone can shed some light on this.  It would be greatly appreciated.

The opto lamp/sensor controls the automatic tracking and movement of the carriage according to the playing of a record.
The carriage motor should move the carriage when the tonearm is a few degrees off parallel to the other arm.

Why did you adjust it?

How does it work now?

Martin
