Hello everybody,
I'm new on this forum so I'll introduce myself real quick first:My name is Gertjan, 30yo and I live in BelgiumI've been tinkering with vintage hifi equipment for about 3.5 years now. I can do most basic repairs involving measuring voltage, setting bias, soldering, recapping.. I'm most familiar with vintage Japanese equiment, but recently I stumbled upon my first B&O.I bought a Beomaster 2300 in working order, and in gorgeous optical condition.A couple of lights have burned out, but from reading these forums, I know these are available. All functions work great, except for an annoying hum.
The hum sounds to be power supply related, as it's present on all inputs, and increases with volume.I've read here that the red capacitors in the amp are prone to failure, but on first (visual) inspection, they seem OK. Probably a bit out of spec, but not leaking at least. On another thread I read that a hum like this could be caused by the rectifier failing.
Now my question:Except for changing the lights, would you recommend I start to hunt down the issue by replacing caps first in the power supply , or just shotgun replace all caps+rectifier in the amp?
I've found all are available from here from a user named martin. Also, not much info is available on the beomaster 2300, am I right to assume the inernals are identical to the 1900-2? I could take some measurements to help point towards the culprit.
Thanks in advance and have a nice sunday!
