Dear B&O community,

It is a pleasure to make my first post on the forum following my recent purchase of a BL18 pair! In order to use them wirelessly, I also purchased a BeoSound Core and a B&O transmitter 1.

So far, so good - all is working nicely together and I am streaming Spotify on the Core for music. The sound quality is excellent!

Here comes the little complication ... connecting the entire system with my video projector, for which the video signal comes from a Google Chromecast. The Google Chromecast is unfortunately not in capacity to split audio and video. Hence, I am planning to purchase an audio extractor (c.f. link) which should solve the problem.

This starts to be a lot of devices, and connecting all of them is giving me a bit of a headache as I am new to the entire matter. I did my fair share of research on the forum/internet and came to the following options:

Option 1:

For video: Google Chromecast => HDMI input to the audio extractor => Toslink connection to the Transmitter 1 => Wireless connection BL 18

For music: unplug the toslink from the audio extractor and plug it into the Beosound core (c.f. transmitter has only one toslink port)

Inconvenient: I will need to unplug the toslink to the extractor and plug it to the BeoSound core each time I want to listen to music (and vice versa for video)

Advantage: Best audio quality

Option 2

Google Chromecast => HDMI input to the audio extractor => RCA from audio extractor and jack in BeoSound Core => Toslink from Core into Transmitter 1 => wireless BL 18

Inconvenient: I suspect the audio quality when watching a movie to suffer from the jack connectivity

Advantage: Ability to stream music or watch movies without manually playing with the cables (i.e. all connected simultaneously)

Option 3

Google Chromecast => HDMI input to the audio extractor => toslink from extractor into transmitter 1 // Also in parallel // Besound Core => Powerlink/RCA into transmitter 1

Inconvenient: I suspect the audio quality when streaming music on the core to suffer from RCA connectivity

Advantage: Ability to stream music or watch movies without manually playing with the cables (i.e. all connected simultaneously)

I hope my context and options came clear to you. Could you please advise me on the best option to follow here? Also, do not hesitate to shed some clarity if you see some misunderstandings from myside when it comes to connectivity. I would be extremely grateful !

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Maxime

Hi Maxine,

How about connecting the HDMI extractor’s optical out to the BeoSound Core’s optical in (I guess you’ll need a physical adaptor for the Core).

Then connecting the BeoSound Core’s optical out to the Transmitter 1’s optical in?

I would connect the Core via Powerlink (RJ 45) to the TR1

BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

Hi mbolo01,

The advantage of connecting Core to T1 with optical is that the signal is kept in the digital domain from source through converter, Core and T1 all the way to the speakers. There would be only one digital to analog conversion, performed by the BL18s at the end of the chain.

What would be the advantage of using Powerlink between the Core and T1? Is it perhaps volume control you were thinking of, or something else?
