My heart sinks......
...... When I see certain posters conducting an endless argument about
1. Snake oil technologies
2. Why B&O isn't using certain technologies (without regard for patents, ownership, etc)
3. Personal attacks
One new poster is particularly good at winding people up, and one of the people who has been wound up was himself winding posters up in the past ( search the archive ).
There has recently been a welcome return of some long-absent posters who make intelligent contributions....but many more have gone. I wonder why?

In case you get confused, this thread was originally headed 'My Heart Sinks......'
On the first edit the heading became 'Arguing Posters bring back More Members' to reflect the return of some absentees, although for about 30 seconds that heading more accurately referred to 'Arguing Idiots'.
I've now realised that it's a waste of time arguing against posters either unable to see that their posts are inappropriate, or who must be intent on destroying the forum regardless. I've got better things to do. Let's hope this phase of Beoworld just passes.

Razlaw:I agree completely as well. I have been wanting a pair of Beolab 5 for years. Dealer dropped a pair off at my house for me to listen to for a few weeks. Today I will be connecting my 9s as rears. In the past I would have posted about it. But I have no desire to given the current tenor of this forum. I started to once but then decided not to.

Well I think that what this forum is about has not disappeared completely yet!
Perhaps some contributors get lost on their way, carried away with arrogance and just showing off.
I come here to get help and share my experiences, mainly in the workbench, the only section to my eyes where we actually produce something, that is salvaging equipment from the bin. Not showing off or anything - most of us are of modest extraction, with limited cash input - but just proud to keep B&O stuff going, and accessing quality at a very low price!
Now it is of course always nice to see well-to-do people showing their current top of the class equipment. We can keep dreaming... and wait 10 or 20 years to buy it broken and enjoy it!

Looking through some of the posts I wonder if the subject matter just lends itself to people becoming tired of discussing it on the internet? When I first discovered Beoworld back in 2005 I owned no B&O products. By 2010 I had 40+ vintage bits and pieces and slowly my interest in some of the peripheral elements of my collection waned, along with my desire to talk about them and answer the same newbie questions that crop up over time. I still have a 'core' collection, but haven't added a new piece for about three years or so now.
Anyhow, it's been nice to have a wander around the place. Are Cleve, Nigel Wheeler, Chris Metcalfe, Andy Tulloch etc. still around as I haven't really come across anything posted by them recently?

That's a shame. Do you know what happened to the others? All top blokes that I have met personally. Some to do business with and some to socialise, but all seemed to have a real passion for B&O.

The problem is where and when your particular peak comes! For me it was realising that I had a stupidly rare and expensive Beomaster 6000 Quad sat in one of my spare bedrooms gathering dust, instead of being listened to as it should have been. It was fully-functioning and hooked up to some nice inputs and speakers, but the soundstage faced a spare bed and in the end I concluded it was getting a bit out of hand...

Ultimately you run up against some limiting factor, be it space, money, partners, or a sense that there is nothing left to collect.
Out of interest, I had a 5000 stack system and moved it on. Not the best sounding to my ears. I still have my 60s Beolab and Beomaster 5000 though - probably one of the hardest pieces to acquire in good condition but also one of the easiest to keep. They take up so little space and sound so good for it. I've had mine driving Pentas and BV5000 panels with no problems at all. Every collector needs to have them at some point :)

I think I'm past the "rush" as well. I don't think I've bought any B&O stuff worth a mention for a couple of years now. Having to move and being forced to carry it all kicked me back to my senses, it seems... Didn't even realize that my 5th anniversary of joining BW went past last December - it's a long time in a human life.

Nice to see some familiar faces here. I bumped into one of the awkward squad on the way through the door, but now I'm here I think I'll hang around for a bit as I remember what a good time I had back in the day.
For those that know me then yes, I got an amazing price for the Beomaster 6000 Quad and for the 4002 turntable I sold about 18 months ago. I think I singlehandedly upped the asking price for those Beograms on eBay by about £150 in one night!
Still at medical school, Cleve. Five years down and only one year left until I become Dr John. Have you still got those MC120.2s?
Sad to hear about Chris. I hope he is recovering from whatever was troubling him.
Still have an all B&O household, so maybe some low-light shots might be forthcoming shortly Jeff. I partially transferred my collecting hobby towards watches, so here's a non-low-light shot that combines the two:

My work situation no longer gives me much time to answer any questions or to participate in the wed thread for that matter. However I do try to catch up on some treads at least once a week.
I think most people build some kind of collection and once that's completed ..... not much more to do than to just enjoy it!
