I recently bought a Beogram 4000 and need to get it restored - does anyone have any recommendations for this - ideally in the UK.
Thanks
Bulldog
Don't know if many will take on a BG4000...there will be someone somewhere, I asked our local B&O dealer this question and he advised they do have a chap....they charge £150 to evaluate the unit then give you a price for the work, this may be in a bid to get you to trade in the unit and buy a new one. If there is nothing wrong with the BG4000 why not attempt it yourself....there's lots of help in these forums

I second Craig's advice.
Depending on the price you paid for it, there is a lot of literature on taking care of those decks. Some are alarming but most of them are not. And you will always find help in restoring your 4000 because it's a piece of history nobody want too be trashed. Thers is a thread here on Beoworld about someone to order a BG4000 overseas and received a wreck. Slowly but surely he's getting his deck back to play. So if your is in better condition, it worth try.
In worst case, whats fixed will be fixed and whatever beyond you skills will be cheaper to get fixed by a specialist.
As a member said recently "the whole fun of it is to fix it".
Thanks you both. Will have a poke around and see how far I get by myself.
If you want to see a Beogram 4000 restoration that had all sorts of problems to sort out you can check out my first Beogram 4000 turntable I restored back in 2015 here on the Beoworld Forum.
Later in that thread I got a second Beogram 4000 and its restoration went smoother.
However, there is one failure that is typical and can be a major stumbling block. That is the phono cartridge connector on the end of the tonearm. Both of my Beogram 4000 turntables had that problem and quite a few others as well. The Beolover Blog has a replacement part for that connector but the removal and installation procedure can be a little much some people. I recommend checking that connector before you begin to get that question out of the way.
Before he answered I was going to suggest you ask Craig to restore it for you :-).
