Greetings, all!  As I wrote in the General Forum, I acquired a used Beogram 8002 sans cartridge.  Before I shell out hundreds for a replacement MMC or SMMC, what are some tests I can perform on the table to assess its condition, and possibly diagnose any problems?  Thank you!!

Hi Gregg

Some things are there you can do without a cartridge mounted.

1 Start the recordplayer, without a Viniyl, as usual, the tonearm should come out of his right corner and drive all the way over the platter without stopping.

In between it should switch over to 45 rpm

at the end it should travel way back into it´r resting position and switch of.

With a recprd on the platter and pressing start the tonearm should come out of it´s reting position and stop at the beginning of the record.

Normaly a little click should audible, that is the muting relais in the back of the Beogram.

If you, very carefully, touch the tonearm to the left, the tonearm should start to travel towards the middle of the record.

At the end comes a little click again and the tonearm travels back to it´s resting position.

Without a cartridge mounted you can´t controll the tonearm going up and down.

The digitals should show steady 33.33 or 45.00 without any flickering.

With the arrow keys you should move the tonearm to the left and right,. The pause key pressed tonearm would lift and after a about minute the arm travels back to restposition, pressing start again tonearm travels back to the position whre you pressed pause.

If there is some flickering at start > no problem , flickering during normal operation is mostley a sign of a defective tachodisc under the platterhub and time for a recap of the PCB´s.

More is not possible i think ;-))

Best regards

Christian

Christian, thank you so much for the detailed and very clear response.  I will get to testing as soon as I can.

Cheers,

Gregg
