I found a pair of Bang & Olufsen Beovox cx100 desk speakers on Craigslist in excellent condition for $190. My source is going to be an early 2015 MacBook pro. Two questions: 1. Is this a good deal for this model in this condition? 2. What kind of amp will I need to drive them (assuming built-in power from MacBook won't be sufficient)? On Craigslist the specs of the speakers are listed as "6 hohm 100(115)watt". Will this amp work? (https://www.amazon.com/TDA7498E-Audio-Amplifier-Receiver-Integrated/dp/B077GWVHHN/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=amplifier&qid=1613838047&refinements=p_n_feature_browse-bin:3265759011&rnid=1267487011&s=aht&sr=1-10). If not, what's a good (ideally budget) option that would? Thanks so much for any advice on this!
You could consider a pair of BeoLab 4 instead.
They have build in amplifier. And I think they will be a way better match for your Mac.
If you insist on CX
The bass-drivers in the CX speakers are often suffering from bad foam. Check if they have been replaced - and replaced/repaired properly.
I have powered a pair of CX50 with such a small stereo amp. My amp was from Lepai. Got a decent result at moderate volume but don't expect hifi sound
