Hi all.
I recently acquired a Beocenter 7700, in mostly great condition. Was working fairly well when I got it, except for a couple of minor issues.
The only known thing wrong with it, besides a couple of dead cells on the LED panel was 1) broken hinges at the back holding the connector panel, and 2) the tape deck not working, possibly belts.
Both of these seem manageable, but now I have a new problem - the whole unit won't power on. I had it powered up, and because the hinge at the back was broken and not holding the RCA input/output panel into place properly, that whole panel at the back fell 1 cm and touched the heat sink, while it was powered up. At least, that is what I think happened.
After that, it's not possible to power the unit up. It's not dead exactly. When plugged into the wall socket, the recording level indiciator meters light up, and the turntable turns when you press the 'turn' button.
So it seems that maybe there's no power going to the "standby" button to turn the unit on (?). Checked the Fuse on the underside and it's in good order. Did I short something? Are there other fuses inside that I should check?
Where else should I begin to troubleshoot? I have a DMM. I hope I haven't fried a microprocessor. Are the microprocessors on these units replaceable or are they super rare and proprietary?
