I am interested in adding a BeoLiving Intelligence to my home but I am not sure if it is “overkill” for my setup and I also don’t know if I need the pro version.

My requirements are basic - I would like to be able to control my Philips Hue light with my BR1.

Furthermore, I would like to be able to use Siri voice commands (maybe Shortcuts) into my homepods enabling my system to start playing tune in radio, Deezer playlist, and similar in various rooms where I have B&O speakers - Core/BL18, M5, Harmony, A9

I don’t have electric blinds, etc

@LuffeDK Yes, very good question!
Answers would be interesting for me, too.

I am currently experimenting with different Apple Homekit devices (e.g. Philips Hue, Netatmo) and Siri. What additional home automation functionalities can I add to Bang&Olufsen devices by using Beoliving Intelligence?

I have been in touch with the team behind BLI. I am convinced it is an awesome product. I will most likely need the pro version for my initial requirements but I find it a bit “overkill” for my simple setup.

I hope the B&O app will integrate better into the IOS Home app in the future. That might solve my needs

I am kind in the same place as unfortunately my Devolo Magic 2 next wifi/powerline does not work with Google home. But on the documentation for the BeoLiving Intelligence it's unclear how well established the HomeKit integration is - I find some weird stuff with homekit e.g. I cannot get Airplay 2 to work even it works with Iphone/Ipad/MBP directly as a Airplay two system wide speaker or directly from Apple Music - I would live to know if the BeoLiving Intelligence would help solve those issues

Hello there

I can tell you how my setup works.

I have Bli in Essential (non pro mode)

I can create scenes and use Siri voice commands to activate those scene's for example I have a screne called turn on netflix, it fires the URL for the scene to activate the TV and turn on Netflix.

I can also use the remote to call up homecontrol menu on the TV and turn lights on and off etc but I mainly use the Hue commands directly on Siri for this and it works well, like "hay Siri turn the living room lights up to 75%"

I dont have blinds etc but everything works ok in Essential mode.

If you want to control the lights using the ligh menu in the Remote you will need pro mode but I dont miss it as I use voice.

As for the scenes they work fine without pro mode but you just need to save them first.

For example my scene on Apple just fires a URL

http://192.168.1.xx/a/exe/Main/Living%Room/MACRO/NetflixV45/FIRE

its all very case sensitive but ones you get the first one its easy for calling up Scene's

Hope this helps

Thank you very much. These were the answers I tried to find. I am also not in need of controlling light from my BR1 and I am not sure I will use voice commands to start my TV - the favourite buttons on the BR1 are excellent for turning on the TV

I might find it useful to use voice commands to start a radio station or a Deezer playlist on various speakers. However, I have 3 Halo’s around the house and I enjoy using the favourite buttons on those for starting radio stations and/or playlists

Munchen:

I would be interested in some use cases for BeoLiving Intelligence, too.

So I've got BLI pro (not sure I needed pro) however my set up is:

  • All the house lights are Philips Hue Bulbs
  • I have Tado for central heading and radiators (connected to home assistant, and then home assistant linked to BLI)
  • Also have Wemo switches for wall picture lights.

I also have Avant-55 - living room, BV11 - bedroom, BV V1 - guest bedroom, BV6 with NL/ML convertor, BS2  and a Moment in the study, BS2 - kitchen.

So currently some examples are:

Monday to Fridays at 7am the BV11 and BS2 kitchen come on at volume 35 to play BBC Radio 4, forces the stand potision to standby and the picture to be off, the lights in the bedrooms on at 50%, main bathroom, top of the stairs, hallway, study, study shelves and kitchen 100%, so I don't walk into things before finding my glasses and I can walk into the kitchen still listening to BBC R4 without having to reach for the BS2 :-)

Another Macro turns all the lights off 180mins after sunrise, the BV11 goes off after 8am as I stumble into the study for work then and stops me burning too much power.

I have a work finished macro where it kicks in some cool tunes in the study, other macros such as a movie one for the living room that depending on the time of day, will turn off the main lights in the living room, dim the wall lights, turn off picture lights, select appletv, put the avant into movie picture mode, adjust the volume and select a particular set of speakers.

I also like calling up the onscreen menus for lights and temperature of Tado. I will get round to maybe done more temperature macros in winter but generally Tado takes care of itself on automatic most of the time.

Hello there

How is Tado linked via HomeKit into the BLI.

I have Tado from my apple kit but not into the BLI.

It’s such a shame on the new TV’s calling up homecontrol is slow and the wheel spins for a while, apparently it takes memory to keep it running in the background ready to use.

Was so snappy on the avant and BV7

Yeah no idea on homekit, I use Home Assistant, running under terminal on an old mac laptop and linked Tado to Home Assistant. I then added home assistant as a System in BLI and then I can use tado for heating controls via BLI via Home Assistant.
