Beocenter 9500 cassette next/previous song problem

I have just serviced a type 1 cassette mechanism in a Beocenter 9500 by installing a new belt (from beoparts-shop.com) and removing and lubricating the tape transport pegs.

All works fine, except for when using the next/previous song feature.
When the playback resumes after finding a gap between songs, the tape transport stops after two seconds, causing the capstans to feed tape which is not being spooled up.
When pressing stop, the excess tape is spooled up before the mechanism stops.

I have not been able to figure out why the tape transport stops after two seconds. If I press play immediately after this, it starts playing normally.
