So I thought I would see if some of the experts here could diagnose my problem so I will have somewhat of a clue to tell the service people.

I recently hooked my lab 5s up using the coax digital to a preamp that has a digital out.  I have had absolutely no problems with them previously using the line in.  Now, when playing through the digital connection, the right speaker makes a crackling noise that sounds like it's only coming from the top tweeter.  To further try and isolate the problem and make sure it wasn't a problem with the preamp, I connected them using digital coax directly to my sonos.  Same problem.

I then swapped cables and made the right speaker the initial speaker in the chain instead of the 2nd speaker to see if it is a problem with that particular connection (digital in). Same problem.  In my mind, this means that maybe there's a fault with the digital in connection on my right speaker? Or, a problem internally with the R speaker and its ability to accept a digital signal?  If so, what is the possible fix for this?

Thanks for any advice

Seems you did all tests you can do. If analogue sound is ok, it`s not the speakers. If you swapped the cable and it`s again the right BL5, must be the electronics od your right BL5. I would just tell the service people what you wrote here. If they come to your house, let them bring a BL5 replacement case.

BL5 won`t be repaired, the electronics will just be completely replaced - at your home -  Eprom with settings of your right BL5 will also be set to the "new" electronics to match the left BL5. The "old" electronics will be sent to Struer.

I`m not an expert, but I had a similiar problem with my left BL5. The replacement costs were 250 Euros. The dealer didn`t charge me for the work...

Hope this helps and good luck

Thank you very much. This is what I suspected. The sticky part is that I live about 6 hrs from the closest B&O dealer, not including Canada. Hope they're willing to send a technician because I'm definitely not shipping these monstrosities.

I took my BL5 to my dealers service place, the electronics were already delivered from Struer. Work took just an hour, so I could reinstall my BL5 the same day in the evening.

Requirements: original packaging and at least a large french car (Renault Espace...

BTW: How old are your BL5? Warranty?...

They are about 6 yrs old. My dealer contacted B&O to see if there is a local service center, which he thinks there is.
