Dear B&O enthusiasts,

I’m hoping for an economical solution to program the beo4 remote (if possible) to work with Lutron IR receiver dimmer switch (maestro). The switches control light bulbs. Lutron company has hex codes they have agreed to send, and I need to know if I can program the Beo4 with the hex codes they will send me. This will allow me to operate their Lutron Maestro dimmer switch in the US. They use to make a Lutron Rania model but only for the European market and they do not work in the US 120V. They discontinued the Rania line but some are available on Ebay.

Secondly, I see in the Beo4 manual describes CONTROL options to use the Beo4 remote with non B&O products. How does this work? I have an LG tv and a beosystem 3 with control ports, so wondering if this would be an option to use the Beo4 as a universal remote for my TV, beosound 3200 and beolab 6000 speakers. Perhaps I need an IR blaster or IR Eye. But hoping to avoid that since the TV, Beosystem 3 and Beosound 3200 all have IR receivers already. I dont want to use another b&O remote that is easily programmable (beo5) because of the elegant and timeless design of the beo4. Any guidance to setup properly would be greatly appreciated :-)

Hi nrao,

It's a common misconception that the Beo4 remote can be "programmed" to control third party devices. It can't.
The Beo4 by itself cannot learn IR codes like the Beo5/6 do.

But they are many other way to expand his features: Oneremote board, Lintronic box, all with their pros and cons.

The CONTROL part you mention may be about the PUC feature that allows to control a non B&O device like and STB or an Apple TV, through a Beovision TV and under certains circumstances.  Maybe it couls work through your Beosystem 3 (but i dont really know about that one, other member will be more helpful on this).

In a nutshell a Beo4 alone is a B&O remote only.

Hope this helps.

Thanks matador, thank you so much for your clarity and kind advise. This makes sense that the Beo4 cannot be programmed using hex codes but i am still hopeful that a setup can be arranged to control my TV via Beosystem 3.

if anyone has light dimmer switch recommendations for purchase compatible with Beo4 and for US power outlets, would be delighted to hear it :-)

other options i was researching and may be worth mentioning is that there is a Beo Configuration Tool that appears to be software (not sure where to download it) but it may be able to program remotes (Beo4 questionable, Beo5 seems likely). Also there seems to be a Beosound Core that does a lot to connect devices wirelessly, perhaps there is a light switch that hooks up to that. But the Beosound Core is not easy on the wallet.

the hunt continues :-)

As a brief follow up, since the beosystem3 has an IR sensor built in, how do i program the beo4 to work with it? It must be simple but any guidance would be appreciated i was told by B&O support that it is possible and they directed me to a retailer but they have been slow to respond. Finally, the BEosystem 3 has control ports built in, so perhaps the TV unit could be controlled by plugging any IR sensor into that control port...just another idea if others may have insight into this method of controlling the TV via Beo4. As always , many thanks for pointing me in the right direction Gents!

Hi

beosystem does NOT have IR sensor built in, IR sensor you have to buy and connect to IR port

controlport is for cinema (projektor and curtains) thru externa devices

beosystem cannot send light commandos to any light controller

do it the right way and buy equpiment that are supposed for it like beolink gateway or beoliving

if you get hexcode maybe you can use beo5 or beo 6 for it but someone else maybe can answer on that

beosound core is a audioplayer NOT a light controller..

Hey beouser66, thank you so much for your swift insight. The details are very helpful as I did not know.

I looked at the beosystem 3 manual and it seems to make reference to a built in IR receiver, that may be covered by accident. Can you have a look? https://bangolufsenassistentgohe.blob.core.windows.net/manuals/TELEVISIONS/BEOSYSTEM_3/beosystem3_userguide_english.pdf

Does this verify that there IS or there is NOT a IR receiver built in?

At the moment it seems the Lintronic solution may be the most viable. Thanks for your guidance

Yes i an 100% shure ther no IR ele built in

beosystem 3 and newer beosystem 4 are for hide away so therefore external IR ele. BUT with newer beovision 4 and bv12 they have IR eye built in but as i understand you only have beosystem 3 not the B&o screen?

Shoot! I have a beosystem 3 and these ir eyes are proving hard to find at a reasonable rate. Feel free to share any shops or links if anyone has a lead. Thanks! Still holding out for insight into light control options in the US for dimmer switches controlled by the Beo4 ..

Beouser66, another thought crossed my mind, if i connect my beosound 3200 to the beosystem 3 using masterlink, will the beo4 remote be able to use the beosound 3200 ir receiver (built in) to control the beosystem 3 that way? Perhaps wishful thinking, but wanted to run it by you and forum!

@nrao

What are you trying to achieve (using the Beosystem 3)?

Only thing that I see in your posts is: ‘a setup can be arranged to control my TV via Beosystem 3’

Which TV do you mean?

The Beosystem was made for working with certain external screens (launched as Beovision 4-65.......as an example).

The Beosystem 3 could be used with a projector (solely or in combination with the BV4-65 screen....again as an example).

In any case (as already mentioned here) it needs an external ir-eye - a special one from B&O, which is connected to the ir-port on the system.

The User Guide, that you refered to, is for an already setup system. How to setup and configure things is described in the socalled Handbook (please do notice, that there are different versions of the BSys3).

The BSys3 can be used with a non-B&O tv. This however, requires a bit of configuration.....there are quite a few threads on this on the forum.

You are getting nowhere without the connected ir-eye - a connection to a BS3200 via Masterlink won’t help you there.

This Masterlink connection is meant for linking the sources of the 2 products (for example, if all speakers are connected to the BSys3, you can listen to CD etc from the BS3200 there).

I’d recommend buying the original ir-eye from B&O (you might get hold of a used one).

Once you have that installed, I am pretty sure that the forum can help with the next steps.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
