When playing tapes trough this system, I am getting one channel that is very clear and one channel that is very dull and low.
Any help out there?
Can the heads be altered or adjusted in any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance
Don't adjust the head's.Check the face of the head(the area that touches the tape)for a wear ridge. You can feel it with a finger nail if there. This could cause the symptoms you describe. The heads are quite long lived in these units with normal use though. It's more likely that you have some leaky capacitors in the tape pre-amp.
There are some common ones that fail with age,but unless you are technically competant,it's best not to delve inside.
Well worth repairing these units, they have lasted well despite being "ersatz" B&O

Check the record/play head carefully, it might be dirt in which case a moistened cotton bud will clean it, or it could have a heavy wear ridge which is causing the tape to ride out of the "wear groove" lifting one channel off the head which would give the same symptoms.
