Recently bought a Mk4 Beovision 11-46 to replace my very old Beovision 3. The picture is good, the design really nice, but the sound (from the internal speakers) sounds very 'thin' compared with the old Beo3.
Speech is particularly weak, and during a movie it is often really hard to understand what is being said unless the volume is really loud. The speech is subdued and hard to make out.
I've played with every sound setting, including resetting to default in desperation and starting again. My hearing is fine (I'm subjected to an occupational hearing test very year) and my partner (who has hearing like a bat!) says she can't hear the speech clearly either.
The Speech Enhance function just seems to make the speech very 'tinny' and even harder to hear. The various adjustment modes (bass. treble etc) don't seem to do a great deal.
Grateful for any help/advice since watching a movie is near impossible (without subtitles!).
Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to say it…..there must be something wrong with (the speakers of) your BV11.
What you describe is not what other BV11 owners tell and definitely not how it is intended to be.
Back in the days when the BV11 was launched member KMA made a long thread about his then new BV11:

Maybe reading that could give you some hints about what to do.
Where did you buy the tv - if it really is as you write, I’d return it.MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
I don't think so. If the pre-owner had a 5.1. setup, the speakers will act as center speaker! Please look at the role of the speakers!

However, it does not seem so.
Chris…. wrote, that he ‘played with every sound setting, including resetting to default in desperation and starting again.’
And even if the built-in speakers were ‘set to’ act like a center channel, they should not sound as described.
Let’s wait and see if he reacts to our posts.

Thank you everyone for all your responses. I've reset everything to default (to try to get around any previous programming) and made sure the software was up to date (it said it didn't need a software update when I 'asked' it). It sounds like there might be something wrong, so will see if I can get someone to come and look at it. By the looks of the long tread on BV11, the sound should be really good, and it generally is apart from sounding 'thin' and a bit feeble in the mid-range. So sometimes you need to really strain to hear speech.
I thought at first it might be just an effect of the thin 'case' of the BV11 compared with the 'cavern' which surrounded my old BV3.
In desperation, I was considering getting some second hand Beolab 6000s to try to make sound of speech 'better'. Sounds like more investigation required first. Do B&O technicians have something they can plug into the TV to test it?

An experienced B&O engineer will for sure hear if there is a problem. I do not think there are so many different things that can be wrong. My bet is that some amplifier needs replacement.
