Hi Everybody,
I recently purchased a Beosound Level with the intention to use it as a speaker for my CD player, which I connected with an optical cable through the optical combi-jack.
I guess that the Level should normally recognise the signal from the player when playing CDs, and automatically switch audio source, but it does not. Moreover, I cannot find a way to manually select the source. The only way to listen to the CD playing is to unplug and then plug in again the optical cable. However, each time I listen to another source (e.g. radio station) or turn the Level off, the CD audio source is lost, and I need to repeat the unplug/plug in manip, which is not convenient at all and very frustrating. Has anyone a clue on how to change the audio source to avoid this?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi Ignoto,
Welcome to Beoworld! Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the optical input of the Level. I haven't tried the optical input, but I use the analogue line input of my Level every day and it works perfectly and it turns on automatically each time the music plays. Does your CD player have an analogue output as well as optical please? If so, I suggest trying this, as it should be fine.
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.

Goto sound settings in the app to view/change.
goto sound setting in the B&o app to view/change the line-in level. Set it to high.
Thanks Steve, that’s a very good point, and indeed I thought about that but didn’t find an analogue cable at home (strange because I used to have lots of them some years ago...) I will purchase a new one to do the test. Perhaps the Level is more sensitive to analogue signal than to optical one.
Stil, I can’t believe that B&O would include a feature such as an optical input without making it work properly. Can’t be just a marketing tip to increase the price, right?
Anyway, even if the analogue line proves all right, I still have some reasons to be upset about the optical not functioning, because:
1. I paid for it
2. I believe that the optical signal must be of better quality than the analogue one
3. The optical output is on the back of my CD player, while the analogue one is on the front, which isn't great from an aesthetic point of view (front jack is OK for headphones, less for external speakers)
4. I purchased an optical mini plug cable just for that!
I wish I could, but did’t find the way. B&O assistance not responding.
Thanks Carol, already done, but didn’t improve anything.

1: Valid point - however, did you look for the settings in the app….as adviced above by Carolpa?
2: I am not sure that will matter much in this case….not in real life, maybe on paper
3: I can’t think of a CD player that has no analog L/R output on the back!
Using the headphone jack (I suppose that is what you mean with ‘on the front’) is the worst way to do things.
Which CD player is it?
4: Again valid, but see under 1:
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi everyone, thanks to all for your valuable advice!
Millemissen, to be honest I did’nt event think about the L/R output on the back, I usually used it for connecting the CD player to the L/R input of an amplifier (yes I’m an old-fashioned guy). Now, using the proper adapter it’s just working great!
Still, after comparing both options, I maintain that analogue signal it’s less qualitative than optical, especially in terms of strength (I need to push the volume much higher).
Finally, the question remains open: what is the purpose of that optical input, if it is not working the desired way ? to answer Carolpa: yes I set the level to high, and that doesn’t improve the response to optical signal. And I didn’t find any possibility to change the source with the app. I wish I could set one of the buttons on the top for that command, but I didn’t find the way. Perhaps in a future update?

That’s quite possible, not a very high-end CD player anyway, but I don’t own another device with both optical and analogue to compare.

Hi everyone, and an happy New Year!
I don’t know if someone’s interested, but I recently downloaded the update of the BeO app, and guess what? They now offer the option to manually selec the audio source!
So thanks BeO that’s a good job!
