Hi everybody. Thank you for letting join your forum.
I have just bought a 2004 pair beolab 6000s. It is my first B&O product besides a bottle opener! At this stage have no other proper audio equipment, only a couple of Sonos speakers to play the radio through.
I bought the speakers because I like the aesthetic, they get good reviews and they were the right money. They seem in very good condition- if they need some maintenance in due course, so be it and I will do it as a DIY task. My sole aim is to be able to play vinyl. In reality I doubt that I will ever want to play anything besides records, so I dont really want the cd or tape elements. I like the vintage look, but am not set on anything in particular. it was hurting my head researching everything at the same time, so I bought the speakers to cross it off the list!
Being new to B&O I am a bit confused by what I need to buy next. One option appears to be a beomaster 6500 as an amp to link up via powerlink, and the Beogram 6500. I am not against this, but I would like to understand the alternatives. the other beomasters (from what I have seen) lack the powerlink connection. I dont need a remote, I would certainly prefer one that as a minimum can be operated without.
Alternatively, if I buy a third party amp, I presume that I would need a new cable from Sounds Heavenly and connect to the most of them have speaker connections which I would call bare speaker wire. Is this ok? I know I would need a phono stages dont know what other features are essential. I was considering something like a Sansui AU-317 or AU-217, based on reviews. fully open to suggestions. To this amps would probably intend to put a pro-ject turntable. This last part seems straightforward. is it as straightforward to connect a Beogram to a third party amp?
the room is 4.5m x 3.5m, I dont need huge sound or perfect acoustics but I want something that is "good". budget for the amp and turntable is say £700, which should allow me to go in either direction. it may stretch a little if it makes enough difference.
thank you in advance.
Hi John,
Welcome to Beoworld! I'm always happy to help with any cables you need.
Just a thought - you mentioned that you also have some Sonos speakers, so one option is to add either Sonos Port or Sonos Connect instead of an amplifier. This will let you share streaming music between the Beolabs and your Sonos speakers, plus you can link a Beogram or any other brand of turntable into the Sonos system as well.
Please let me know your thoughts and I can help you to get everything connected.
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.

thanks Steve. Am I correction thinking though that if I use the Port, and a turntable, I still dont have anything with volume control on? l like the idea of it being a fairly small box.
The Sonos Port has a volume control for the speakers, this is controlled via your phone. Please feel free to get in touch via my sponsor link below if you decide to go ahead and I can help with cables.
