I guess it had to happen one day, the CD 5500 has stopped working, it has the older CDM-2 mech, so must have been one of the really early ones, because it looks like other 5500's have CDM-4/11
Does anyone know what replacement CDM models will be an easy swap out for my 5500 ??
It would be nice to get it back up and working again with a newer CDM model, failing that I may have to resort to buying a Marantz or Philips and use an old CDM-4, but I am not sure what other parts I will need to make this work
any advice on this would be really welcome !
I found this by googling
The original release of the 5500 involved the CDM2. A service manual addenda mentioned an upgrade to the CDM4 which involved a full set of parts needed to make the conversion. Those who own the 5500 with a CDM4 are very lucky. Aftermarket CDM4 parts are easily interchangeable in the RAFOCI repaired a B&O CD5500 version 2 (CDM4) once with the identical lowering of sampling test voltage after a few minutes. Turned out the 33ufd axial cap in the laser supply servo board was on the way out. After replacement the machine has worked flawlessly with an excellent 50mv center of disc laser sample. I've also seen many CDM2 with this identical problem ( Anthony Garza Beomuse)
Is the C2103 capacitor the same thing as the 33ufd axial cap ??
Indeed it is.

thanks Graham for confirming, is there anyone in Herts or Cambs who could have a look at this for me do you know ?
