I recently acquired an 8002 which needs a bit of work to put her back into service. I have poured over the other threads on here, as I have similar issues. The deck starts up and is always on, the only command it responded to was 33 or 45.
I suspected the << and >> buttons to be an issue as they feel different to the other when pressed (no click). So I opened up the panel and took a look, but it seems they are inherently different by design, so that may not be it. Interestingly after putting her back together and powering on it started on the red dot, standby setting. Pressing play caused the arm to move ever so slightly, then stop. All controls were then useless again bar 33 or 45. Powering off and on has varying results, sometimes its always on, and other times in standby.
I'm suspecting a bad joint somewhere and will endavour to keep my progress logged. Any input/suggestions would be appreciated to help save this rather special piece of hi-fi.
Thanks
I suspect about 50-80 bad solder joints, evenly scattered around the boards plus a vast amount of dead capacitors. All very common.Grab a capacitor kit and replace the lot and go over the boards with a good soldering iron under a microscope.Use solder with a hint of silver in it to prevent future cracking of the joints due to vibrations/temperature.Soldering on these boards is delicate work, the boards are very sensitive to heat and generally it can be said thatworking on these decks is not a job for a beginner. They are nothing like any other piece of stereo.
