Hi there,
I currently have beolab 6000s and was wondering which would be a better combination a beolab 11 along with my 6000s or a pair of beolab 8000s?

Having not heard the BeoLab 11 more than a bit in the store, I would go for that one in combination with the 6000's.
The 8000 at some point got new base drivers, but I do not beleive that they will beat the 11.

Are you considering new BeoLabs 8000/8002?
My advice: test at home for a longer weekend with you own music! For that price range you could kindly ask the dealer for a 3 day test at home.
Also consider that a 3000+ Euro price range also make the BeoLab 9 worth thinking these over as second hand set.

Agree - you must listen for yourself. Each of us listens in our own way and different aspects will appeal. In bald terms, the Beolab 8000 is considerably better than the 6000 - and in more than just bass response. The Beolab 11 will add bass but will not improve the top end. If you are using them with a TV, the bass will be important for the low notes often used more in films than music. If I was using it for music, I would want the better balance of the 8000. The thought about second hand 9s is a very good one and don't rule out Beolab 1s which are like grown up 8000s.

The Beolab 11 would be brand new if i got it, but the BL8000 would be a second hand MK2 if i got one.

I am using them as all round speaker connected to my ouverture, so i play music, radio etc and also through aux have connected a digibox, ps3 and 3.5mm jack for laptop or iPod.
What difference is the top end between the 6000 and 8000? As they have the same tweeter driver?

Would love to but that is a lot of money to fork out, for the moment at least.

Yes its doesn't produce the best bass by any means, but i disagree that is it no good for music i heard the 8000s in store this week and even the dealer said they aren't much different to the 6000s apart from low end and he agreed that the 6000s have a greater timbre. Plus the 6000s have such nice looks, so slim and sleek. I think the bl11 may be the best option for me, as everyone has suggested the 8000s are good but the bass is no match to the 11, seeing as the setup is going to be my audio source for my home cinema.

If it is for home cinema BL8000's and BL2 is better in my opinion. Of course BL9 is better and BL5 even more. But this is another thing. And yes i have auditioned several times BL8000's with BL11. Personally i would say it is a joke for 1500 euros. Try to test some setups in your dealer before you decide. Good luck

The Beolab 8000 is more detailed and sweeter than the 6000. I prefer 4000s to the 6000. I nearly bought 8000s a good few years ago but instead bought new Pentas (shows how long ago it was!!) Pentas are not quite as good at the top end but are very well balanced with plenty of bass and a lovely mid range. I would suggest either 8000s or consider 1s secondhand. You must listen yourself though.

Not sure about the 4000s as the bass sounds "boxy" kind of like standard bookshelf speakers, and the lack of power they have? In your opinion though what sound difference is there between the 6000s and the 4000s?

Definitely would love to have BL8000s with BL2s but its a fair chunk of money that i do not have at the moment, especially the 9s or 5s- they are a dream for now.
I have noticed that i can get the BL2 second hand cheaper than a new BL11, what would a 6000 and 2 combo be like? Better or worse than 11&6000? If anyone has had any experience with this setup?
A second hand BL2 costs as much as a new BL11
No, a second hand BL2 costs less than a BL11, moreso if the BL11 has the shiny alu finish.
Personally I feel 8000's are a big-step up from the 6000's, similarly I do not rate the BL11 at all.
One consideration missing here is that of the Beolab 3, excellent speakers and when funds allow in the future, pair with a BL2.
Limited as it is, you might get some impression of bass from a BL11 only when paid with 6000/4000 - with that frequency response it hardly deserves to be called a sub.
I would suggest the best option is Beolab 8000 Mk1 and Beolab 2
The Lab 8000 is a far sweeter sounding speaker than the thin sound from the 6000's. Due mainly to the quality of the drivers and the size and rigidity of the Aluminium tube. The drivers in the 6000 are really poor quality, I have seen much better in the door of a cheap car!!!
A pair of 8000 Mk1 can be had for less than a grand and they are every bit as good as the Mk2 versions that everybody is paying a hefty premium for.
Team these with a Lab 2 for another grand and sell the 6000's.
You will have done the job properly and for not much more than the price of the new "boys" subwoofer that you were considering.

Honestly, you will get better bass and also better details from 4000s if you install them on the wall let say hight of 1,8 meter. 4000s sounds weak when they are on stand but in a shelf or on the wall will suprise you.
6000s are good enough for their size but still sounds weak. You will get definetely better sound if you combine them with 11.

Music tired, not sure if thats even possible, I love music and use this set for hours on end.
Why would one want,or need,an 850W subwoofer in a normal (UK) domestic environment?
I use a BL11,admittedly with BL3s,and it's 200W maximum output is far more than I can comfortably cope with.
As for the quality of the B11 it's subtlety,when required,is a winner.
This thread just proves what Peter said earlier. Everyone hears differently. If you're used to listening to bl5, bl9, bl1 or even bl3 or bl8000, the bl6000s may sound thin. However, if your reference is an ipod dock, clock radio or bl4, then they will sound great.
Listen for yourself and choose what suits you (and what you can afford). 2nd hand generally offers a better value as beolabs are well built. Then again, new is nice - especially if you can audition the speakers at home.
I've had great luck with 2nd hand and dealer demos. My first set was new (8000s, then a bl2 a year later), but since then dealer demos/returns (4000s, 3500, 4s) and 2nd hand (bl1s) - as you can see, this can be addicting.
