greetings again,
I did receive some valuable support from some of you - GREAT & THANKS
the arm would now freely rise or lower if not for the damn solenoid.
it has been well lubricated but does only seem to engage in one direction.
after consulting the service manual I noticed that board BP100 has a different layout to mine.
the diode 3D1 = IN4004 seems to be missing ??
am I missing a point here or bark at the wrong tree ?? I can hear a click, it flicks but can't seem to fully engage.
who would be in the position to crack the final part in the arm lower/rise saga ??

Make sure you have the correct service manual. Check the 4-digit type number (53xx or 55xx).There are many different types.

Are you sure the diode isn't soldered on the other side of the PCB?
I think you should get 3V at the solenoid when you cue down. Have you checked your transistor (TR4) and the emitter resistor?

I downloaded a couple of manuals but it's always the wrong type !!

I lifted the board and the only thing I can see is a resistor underneath !
but then again this board my not have the diode as I looked in the type 5502 manual
mine is a type 5511 model !!!
question is how to get the right manual and find TR4 and it's emitter resistor

allow me to reply once more:
without the correct service manual (type 5511) I won't get very far - unless you know a link to get the correct one :-)
one of the problems is I can't identify the TR4........... is it 1TR4, OTR4,.....?
then I am not quite sure whether you refer to a different type 4002 than mine ???
if you could upload a picture that would make it a lot easier for me - should that be an option ?!

It is OTR4.
But perhaps you have this, since there's no diode, so check the darlington, and above all that ominous 100μF cap:

I checked the board no.1 -the control board- and found two faulty transistors: TR10 and IC2 = MPSA13 (which I believe is a darlington)
I shall also check the 100uF cap and will report back

it is indeed similar !! :-)) finally !!
the 100uF cap actually shows 144uF on my board, the TIP125 tests faulty and the TIP120 seems faulty (?) as well, unless my tester fools me ?!
parts are on order, so I am waiting patiently to perform a successful surgery - hopefully soon

I can report some good news:
after changing the two darlington transistors, two other transistors plus all the tantalum caps on the main board
the table plays again with a functioning solanoid - I am delighted to say the least and it sounds quite nice too !!!
the purists would want to check the fine tuning perhaps as there may be other issues on the way to perfection:
the arms lowers very gently, however lifting of the arm seems very quick and abrupt - not quite sure whether this is as it should be ??
also the arm has quite a bit of lateral movement when in the up (resting) position, meaning it is not stiff and fixed in position - correct or not I would not know?!
