I never noticed that volume problem with my Harmony 525 remote. This one has 4 macro functions as I can remember, which was used in combination with a projector and a hdmi switch. Worked reasonable. But the plastic casing of the Harmony didn't temp me to use it regularly.
With the BL7000, you start to remove your devices.
When adding them again, the bl7000 starts to communicate with the added device. It starts to communicate in a 2 way protocol. If the bl7000 doesn't get respons to that, it will continue in 1 way. But in fact it senses if there is a audio or video master working in 1 or 2 way.
Well, I see i've opened quite the can of worms with my remote questions.
For those of you considering third party remote control without having to deal with Logitech, I suggest you check out Global Cache hardware combined with iRule software. None of the superfluous nonsense you get with Logitech's (by now unsupported) offerings and infinitely more customisable (even third party relay switching is possible).
But anyway, on to the next chapter: Beocord Discord!
Had a change to open up the BC8000 this morning, managed to unstick the non functioning eject mechanism as well as confirm it needs allignment and belts, but I'm having a frustrating fight with the allignment of the tape transport to get the eject bar to work after the case has been closed.
Am I just exceedingly clumsy with this sort of thing or is the allignment process an inherently finicky undertaking?
Playdrv4me:As for the 7000, I was not aware that there was a way to make it work in one way mode at all. I can tell you that using it with one way equipment is an exercise in utter frustration as each time you move sources or do other things you have to wait for "NO CONTACT" to show up on the display and then proceed with whatever you were doing. If there's a way to turn off two way mode altogether it would make it interesting for use with 1 way devices like the BS9000, but rather pointless.
...and it's not going to be that much less frustrating in proper 1-way mode either. The largest, clumsiest Beolink 1000 ever invented, augmented with the annoyance of having to look where you peck, and no feedback on the display.
Really. You're going to try it once or twice and then forget it...

I still can't bring myself to get rid of mine. A. because I horrendously overpaid for it, and B. because it was the product that sparked my interest in B&O all those years ago at a Hi-Fi boutique when I was a kid. But I agree, it really just sits there on the top of my entertainment center just giving me feedback on what my BM7000 is doing, like a single Penta basically. I use my Harmony 300i and my BL1000 every single day. The Beo4s and the BL7000... eh, not so much.

That's how I use mine too most of the time - I was only referring to using it in one-way mode. It's useless for that.
Let's give the thread back to the OP now
Just to clear up some of the confusion regarding remotes and Beomaster 8000 compatibility:
Everything post-Beolink 1000 will not work without the exceptionally rare converter that you will not find. Ever!
All Beomaster IR remotes pre-Beolink 1000 will work to some extent. I used the remote from a Beomaster 3000, 6000 and I seem to recall even an MCP 5000 would change the volume up and down and select some sources. The best fit is the Beolab Terminal, but the problem is finding one at a sensible price...

I found a converter, just need to work out a deal with the seller, so I won't be shouting "eureka" just yet. i have a Beolab Terminal as well, but right now the appeal of the converter is full control via PC or tablet. Do I really need any of that? No. But it's fun to tinker with this stuff.

Good work! They are very rare - never seen one here in the UK. Anyone else reading this take note - you won't find another!

Or not. Had a deal worked out and was waiting for the seller's bank info, just heard he sold it to someone else anyway despite our agreement...
How much real need is there for this converter? Do people want it because the proper terminal is so hard to find, or does everybody just want to control the BM8000 with a Beolink 1000?
I'm asking because if I ever get around to putting my Beomaster 8000 into actual use, I'll be wanting the latter (even though I have the Terminal). If a lot of people are dying for the same, I could consider looking into making some kind of a kit of that instead of building a one-off solution for myself.
For me personally, my interest in the converter is the fact that it uses a more common frequency spectrum that is compatible with universal remotes. There are plenty of great solutions out there for RF control or Wifi control via tablet. It would've been a great way to drag my BM8000 into the 21st century since I also want to stream FLAC to it via a USB DAC.
Generally speaking though, it seems a Beolab Terminal has become very hard to find and expensive while Beolink 1000's are a dime a dozen.
I'd definitely be interested in a converter kit. Heck, I'd even prefer it over the orginal converter, which seems needlessly complicated and clunky.
