Hi there,

Picked up a Beomaster 1200 today. All works OK apart from the volume is incredibly quiet and plenty of popping and crackling.

Opened the case and there are two "Electrolytic capacitors" 3000uf 25v. They appear to be wired into the amplifier circuit. One of these capacitors has leaked a brown goo from its endcap so I am assuming that this is the problem.

Now. I have never ever ever had to order a capacitor! Soldering is not a problem but the choice of capacitors is bewildering! Can anybody here point me in the direction of what I need to order please?

Many thanks in advance

You should replace all the caps you can while you're in there. There are some very experienced members who I'm sure will chime in to let you know what you need or offer a complete set of the right caps for your Beomaster.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply. After much Googling I have stumbled on somebody doing capacitor kits that contain everything to jazz up the innards of my 1200.

Are these kits the way to go? or should I just replace individual components?

Unless it's "Dillen" right here, I would be very wary of these "kits".

Generally, the kit-assembler knows less than nothing about choosing proper components, and is interested in only one thing - his pocket.

If you end up buying crap, you'll be repairing your machine in a short while again. If you buy quality, you'll have 25+ years of pleasure.
